Dana just wants the Nevada commission out of his hair so he can decide the winners himself. Basing a fight on face bruises is not how its done if they don't want to use the 10 point system then make up something else but you don't get to call the judges corrupt when they call a close fight differently than the result you want. The fights are in Vegas because you can charge more for seats Dana won't be passing that up no matter what he says in public
No Kidding. I remember going to the UFC here, the one that was during the Stanley cup finals. I paid $80 for a pair of row 2 in the upper bowl dead centre. In Vegas I once paid $30 to get to watch at the bar in planet Hollywood. Vegas is their cash cow. I wonder how much tickets cost in Brazil.

What are others thoughts on someone having a full beard/facial hair going into a fight, I believe for anyone who excels in submission holds, it would be a disadvantage going against someone who has a mangily growth on his face as in Hendricks. As the fight progresses and with the respective fighters going into the corner between rounds, the beard combined with sweat and everything the trainers could possibly throw into the beard would make it even more difficult for the other opponent to fight fairly against. In championship fights everyone should be clean shaven or not allowed to have so much growth on their face that it could be used as an advantage in a fight. In my opinion it was a close fight and Hendricks needed to knock out or submit GSP in order to take the title away.

white is ALWAYS thinking about 3 ppv's ahead... the more controversy he can stir up just after a fight, the bigger his gate will be 6 or 9 months from now for the re-match. NEVER take him at face value. he is the KING of drama

I don't know about beards. I don't think it makes that big a difference. What I think is dumb is the guys with long hair. Clay Guida with his long sweaty hair, each time he takes a jab, the hair goes flying, a huge cloud of sweat goes flying.
Makes the punch look twice as bad. I guess his opponents don't really mind.

Well bro, it is almost universally accepted that Hendricks definitely won rounds 2 and 4, and GSP won 3 and 5. The debateable round was round 1 and it seems that everyone agrees that the round was razor close. This hardly qualifies as a "cooked" decision.

The medical suspensions came out today. It seems that GSP managed to blow out Hendricks knee in the first round with leg kicks. Hendricks is on medical suspension for 6 months. The talk is that everybody in the stadium (and likely the judges) heard that knee pop in that round...apparently everybody but Dana White.

So not only does it appear that the judges may have gotten the scoring correct as per the 10 point must system, but Dana declared in the press conference that damage is the most important criteria. If that's the case, not only did GSP win the round 1, but he won the fight because he's only on medical suspension for 45 days. His face will be cleared up long before Hendricks' knee will be cleared.

Face bruises don't count for everything folks.
...This is the most objective analysis I have heard. Well done. Encouraging to see some people understand the 10-point system by which judges are SUPPOSED to judge, and not the summary emotional armchair approach to fight judging. Add to that in a close 10-point scored fight, it is a long standing expectation in Nevada that you can't just connect with a champion a bunch of times and expect to dethrone him. You have to beat him. Clear knock downs on strikes (didn't happen), clear multiple submission attempts (didn't happen--GSP had the best submission attempt in Round 1), 4/5 or 5/5 rounds dominated (didn't happen). So if I was a vegas judge with that fight, I would say a split edge to GSP is consistent with how they do things. You don't have to like how they do things, but Dana White made one (probably only one) accurate statement in the post-fight banter when he said to Hendricks "you didn't hit him hard enough, you left it in the hands of the judges". So Hendricks is believing his own hype now. He fought a good fight, but not good enought to finish the champ, and not quite good enought to dethrone the champ, but close for sure. They both left it in the hands of the judges, and the judges gave the edge to the champ. Despite all the dissagreements, it was a good fight!

Punt.

Why is the gaming commission getting thrown under the bus here? It's not even responsible for boxing/UFC, the sport and athletic commission is.
It's not the gaming commission at all. It's the Nevada State Athletic Commission- they're the motherfuckers who ruined boxing and now are ruining UFC. The guys here are getting the two mixed up.

exactly. dana white was more pissed off at the notion of gsp taking time off. he knows the rematch will be huge. talk of even doing it at the new cowboys stadium. all those millions go out the window if gsp just leaves and vacates the belt. as well the ufc needs to start filling 34 shows next year, and have already lost pettis and the lightweight belt for basically most of next year, bones jones was scratched from february's ppv. cain has no real challenger in the heavyweight division, so dana needs gsp and anderson silva to fight regularly.

Or Dana needs to market DJ, barao vs Cruz and Aldo better.

hard to market cruz since he hasn't fought in 2 years, and before that he played second fiddle to faber. hard to market barao and aldo when they don't know a word of english and seem unwilling to learn any. jds didn't know the language and learned it and increased his marketability. even anderson silva who was the same way realized the business opportunities of knowing even a bit of english. jones is their most marketable fighter.

I looked up the records of the 2 judges that scored it for GSP and I'm even more confused about Dana White's comments about the Nevada commission than before. Sal D'Amato and Tony Weeks have judged over 350 fights between them in the last 10 years. They have judged UFC Bellator and Strikeforce matches everywhere in Vegas in Canada, Australia, Brazil and Abu Dhabi. These guys are 2 of the busiest MMA judges out there and they've judged more fights outside Vegas than in so I have no idea what the Nevada Commission has to do with any of it.
