The thread about "To Pimp Or Not To Pimp" got me thinking about a situation of my own. The circumstances arose in a micro setting—though some of my thoughts may apply in an Indy context as well.

So you're a strong believer in the importance of SP work for human happiness and social peace. And let's say, you're a regular at a micro and on friendly terms with the mamasan—who has been, and sometimes still is, one of your ATF SPs.
She's in over her head operating her own micro and would appreciate your help. You see a crying need for things like more consistent, effective and truthful advertising. Whipping together a decent ad—and posting it on various English-language sites—is next to impossible for her, but would be a piece of cake for you.
You feel a strong impulse to help her, not because you want economic benefits in return, but simply because you admire and respect this spunky lady, with her warm personality and lots of mature charm.
You've reason to think, feelings of respect and liking are mutual. You'd like to help her succeed. BUT—
1. You've already given her some advice—which she took only rarely and at best inconsistently.
2. The problem starts with her choice of girls, who're often personal friends of hers. You've encouraged several pooning buddies to see them, but they rarely left happy.
3. Communication with this lady is difficult. It's not as if she's fluent enough in English (or you in Chinese) to hold a decent conversation. Her attitude of playing fast and loose with the truth drives you crazy. There's certainly no basis for romance.
4. You fear that if you start doing her favors, like writing her ads, she'll inevitably feel a sense of indebtedness that could easily turn to resentment.
5. Other necessary tasks—like answering the phone or e-mails in English, or driving a girl to an outcall and providing security—would immediately become unrealistically time-consuming.
6. You think she probably could get most of the help she really needs from the Chinese underground gangster network that supplies most micros around town with girls.
So...after weighing the pros and cons of offering this mamasan your free help, you decide against it. Better just to support this lady by seeing her girls, paying full donation, and perhaps writing reviews that scrupulously stay within the bounds of truth.
