10 Qualities of Being a Gentleman

number 8, "A gentleman is well-dressed" doesn't hold water

The rest are about character, no 8 isn't, hygiene is one thing, the clothes you can afford or choose are another

I've met some of the biggest waste of skin that were "well dressed", it has nothing to do with being a good person, clothes don't make the man, character, words and actions do

you can put all the lipstick on a pig you want, it's still a pig, just a pretty pig

I probably "live by" most of those rules but not because I'm following some sort of code. I just try to be a good person and don't worry about the details.

i was only ever told two:

1) if she's a lady, she won't look... if she isn't, you've got nothing to hide
2) don't ever get serious about a woman until you've met her mother... that way you know what she's going to be like in twenty-odd years

truer words were never spoken

A brilliant list, Vanessa, but I want to ask you about one item, specifically, number 26: "Never have sex with someone who doesn't want it as much as you." That item would serve to demolish the sex trade, wouldn't it? I mean, what goes on in PERB, for instance, occurs because men want the sexual activity more, much more, than the women, right? So men pay for the privilege. If we actually lived by such a credo you, and many others, would be out of a well paying job, right? What do you think? I mean, honestly, what do you think, Vanessa? Kindly respond.

You do have a lovely way, Vanessa, and I inevitably appreciate your comments even when you post an opinion with which I disagree. I think your presence on PERB is, overall, exceedingly positive just as I'm sure meeting you in person would be as well.

#8 should be on the list. Men in Vancouver do not dress well and that's mainly due to the lifestyle. It's the type of city where you want to be outdoors doing activities and not inside socializing. In general, and this is just my opinion, Vancouver men dress poorly and lack style.

So our strange jay gatsby protoge on here has assumed the use of a Jay Gatsby annoying coloquialism used a couple of times in the book but probably overused in the Dicaprio version of the movie. Definitly not the Redford version, as only hollywood can in remaking a classic movie find a way to only ruin it for generations to come.
Whatever your opinion about the phrase might be, you yourself have proven that it was a character specific phrase used in the book, so it only makes sense that the use of that phrase would be adapted by the character in the superior :D Baz Luhrmann remake released earlier this year.

imdb ratings are based on user reviews and rotten tomatoes ratings based on critic reviews. While the critics numbers are not great for either version, in both cases, you'll see that the DiCaprio version is generally favoured over the 1974 version:

The Great Gatsby (1974)
www.rottentomatoes.com/m/1008799-great_gatsby/
Rating: 37% - 30 reviews

www.imdb.com/title/tt0071577/
Rating: 6.3/10 - 13,271 votes

The Great Gatsby (2013) - IMDb
www.rottentomatoes.com/m/the_great_gatsby_2013/
Rating: 49% - 247 reviews

www.imdb.com/title/tt1343092/
Rating: 7.4/10 - 92,573 votes

I saw the Redford version. didn't see the dicaprio one, tho' if he gets plugged in the swimming pool that might be worth the price of a ticket.
