Thought it was a slam dunk he was going to Calgary. Surprised me that Calgary took Emile Poirier with that #22 selection
I heard that Shinkaruk might have had a bad reputation and alleged attitude problems from his younger days in Calgary that might have rubbed some of the locals the wrong way so that could explain why they passed on him.

Under a new head coach in John Torterella, I look for Ryan Kesler, David Booth and Kieth Ballard to have huge bounce back years.

Both Ballard and Booth will be gone before September. Ballard will be bought out at > $4 M and performance wise being on the low end he is not worth the $4M. - big bad boy

Uhm first off I doubt there will be any compliance buyout for the Canucks. If AV was still here yes I think Ballard would be gone.
Remember when we made the deal for KEITH Ballard:

Ballard, 27, finished second among Panthers defencemen in scoring, recording eight goals, 20 assists (8-20-28) and 88 penalty minutes in 82 games with the Panthers in 2009-10. Ballard made his NHL debut in 2005-06 with the Phoenix Coyotes where he collected 39 points (8-31-39) in his rookie season. In 397 NHL games with the Phoenix Coyotes and Florida Panthers he has collected 149 points (33-116-149) and 403 penalty minutes. The 5’11” defenceman led all NHL defencemen in shorthanded goals with three in 2005-06. He has represented USA at the World Championships on three occasions, 2004 (bronze medal), 2007 and 2008, and at the World Junior Championships in 2001. The Baudette, MN native was originally selected 11th overall by the Buffalo Sabres in the 2002 NHL Entry Draft.

John Tortorella is an American coach, and a new coach to this team. Tortorella was also the assistant coach of the U.S. National Men's hockey team in 2008-2009, which included leading the squad at the 2008 IIHF World Championship, where they finished sixth. Booth and Ballard were on that team. Perhaps maybe that gives them a new lease on life in Vancouver. Only time will tell as they haven't been bought out yet.

It's spelled KEITH. It's not always I before E, look it up. You might learn something. - big badboy

Since you made this prediction just last night around this time I thought I would bring this to your attention assuming you wouldn't post it yourself and eat crow.

http://blogs.theprovince.com/2013/07/01/canucks-use-waivers-trying-to-avoid-a-keith-ballard-buyout/

All your copy and paste from 8 years ago is all ancient history. The game is played on "what have you done for me lately" not what Ballard did in 2005 through 2007. Didn't matter if Ballard was on AV's shit list, he just was not the right fit for our defensive pairings and played like he had zero confidence.

Geez and Here I was thinking you were on Gillis's Speed Dial?? :pound: Clearly they do not want this coveted D Man / part time forward that you are so high on.

BuBye Ballard which frees up $4M Cap Space.

Next up Booth another over-paid under achiever and probably next will be Mason Raymond too.

I think Booth can't be bought out because he is still injured and will still be injured when the buyout window closes.

I'd think Mason Raymond will just be allowed to explore UFA.

Uhm BBB Ballard was placed on regular standard waivers not $100 unconditional waivers that is required for a buy out.
I believe the expectation is that if he doesn't get picked up from conventional waivers he will go on buyout waivers and then get bought out. It was reported on TSN.

Yah you could be right but over the long haul, unless Booth ups his game he will be moved or sitting up on the fourth level watching the game. Raymond at $2.3M is not a big hit on the Cap while Booth is at $4.3M. Unload all three then you have $10M of Cap space to work with for next season. We will still need to get a real back up goalie for Lu too. Cory's hit was $4M on the Cap so we should be able to acquire a decent back up before September unless they put their faith in Eddie Lack.

Point being the Canucks are not as high on Ballard as you insinuated last night.

I think Booth, if healthy, is getting paid what he should be getting paid as a 20-30 goal scorer that drives to the net. He is the closest thing to a 2nd line winger that the Canucks have, if Gillis can get Booth and Kesler a playmaker to feed them the puck then I think they can have a great year together depending on health. Kesler also needs a 3rd line checking centre to take the defensive responsibility off him and reduce the physical wear and tear on him from checking opposing teams best lines, I don't think it is a coincidence that Kesler had his best offensive season (even though he won the Selke) when Malholtra was healthy and then he started wearing down when Manny got hurt.

I think they will go with Eddie Lack as they are very high on him and he has gotten a lot of good scouting reports.

See what I mean....lol.....phukk!
Its comical.....someone says Ballard is going to be gone. He will argue the semantics of exactly how he will end up leaving.
Its unreal.

Exactly BB. Also if he clears these waivers and they decide not to buy him out he can be sent to he AHL without being waived again and his salary would be excluded from the cap. Don't think that will happen though. I still think he will ultimately be bought out.

Badger, no comment please. Your endless pontification to every post is making me vomit.
I don't think you can bury guys in the minors anymore to prevent their cap hit from counting, I believe they changed that in the new CBA so it is only minimal relief at best.

Good post, all depending upon not just Booth's health but Kesler's as well.

Yup, exactly. He will usually just cut n paste comments from sportsnet and TSN and make them his own. Phukk, after awhile it just gets to be too much.

And you really can't put him on ignore as whoever he is arguing with replies with his quote so you get it anyway. Phukkkkk.
Be nice if he would at least start his own thread, to act like a ranting lunatic.

To be honest, I'm more upset that Gillis didn't pick the 6'4 speedy Russian with soft hands, Nichuskin, than the actual trade itself. I believe Nichuskin was good enough to be Vancouver's 2nd line winger next season. It's not like Schneider really won the starting job last year. He also played like ass in the playoffs. Given the major cap issues Vancouver has, they weren't going to get much for either.

Also, what TSN seemingly forgets to mention since the trade has been made is that the team that was offering 3 players (well, 2 of them were picks) was Edmonton. And unless you're the Toronto Maple Leafs, you never trade a player to a division rival.
There were rumours that he had serious character issues like he gave up during combine tests and was a horrible interview. In addition to that he said if he wasn't in the NHL he would just go to the KHL. He was essentially the anti-gillis player.

Ballard on waivers, set for the buy-out.

We'll never know if he might have found his game here, seems like economics decided the issue.

I hope he lans on his feet somewhere

He needs to go somewhere where he can be a top 4 defenseman, that obviously wasn't here with Edler, Hamhuis, Bieksa and Garrison ahead of him, probably Tanev as well.

He also never really fit AV's system which I understand depended on a great breakout pass from the defense while Ballard's strength was skating it out.

Well, he got signed today to the Wild. Much better fit for him..

Now.. how much will Tanev get?
