Interesting discussing. There is a federal law against not having proper ID on you. So if you're caught in a MP during a raid and can't produce your ID, you could get cited for not having proper ID on you in addition to any charge you might face, not sure what the penalty would be, probably just a fine.
We have Vancouver Police, yes actual Police officers armed with guns not just bylaw enforcement officers, patrolling the Skytrain here in Vancouver. Unlike Montreal and Toronto which have fare gates, up until now in Vancouver fare payments have been made on an honour system. Starting next month Vancouver will join Montreal and Toronto in having a fare gate system so then you will have to pay to get on the Skytrain.
Currently if you're caught on Vancouver's Skytrain without a valid fare, the police officer will write you a ticket, but what happens if you don't have valid ID on you? Lots of people apparently ride the Skytrain for free without ID. The police could cite for you that also, so double the fine. And fines are now tied to renewal of your driver's license, so if you don't pay the fine you won't get your driver's license renewed at renewal time unless the fine is paid off. A bit like you don't get your car insurance renewed unless all outstanding fines are paid. The same situation in Manitoba? Just curious.
Not having ID on you makes the police's work more complicated if say for example you have a heart attack and are found dead or unconscious on the sidewalk, upon finding your body they will not be able to identify you.
In light of the recent Ontario Court ruling striking down some aspects of Canada's Prostitution laws, do the cops now have a more difficult time busting MPs? Haven't the laws now changed making prostitution "more" legal? Is it just Ontario where bawdy houses are now legal or does Ontario's court ruling apply to all provinces?
