Old farts like me prefer music played by people, rather than created by computer programmers. See same response for any kind of hip hop or techno music. A great musician died this weekend; Duck Dunn's work with Al Jackson Jr. defined a "rhythm section" and what it could do to make people move. Programming a bass line and a drum machine track just doesn't cut it for cranky old guys.
What actually happens during a "concert" by a band like this one? Is it just flashing lights while a guy sits behind a turntable, or do they have live musicians to play the parts?
I've spent a lot of time in the electronic music scene over the years, and as such have many friends who are DJs. Some of them just mix tracks and don't actually create anything (they're just in it for the tail lol) But I know a few who legitimately make the entire song; every sound, every melody, they are the entire band. You definitely need musical talent to do it, and it takes a lot of time and effort to create just one song. The computer is essentially a new instrument, think of it that way.Old farts like me prefer music played by people, rather than created by computer programmers. I'm sorry to be one of those awful music snobs, but Benny Benassi, Tiesto...Skrillex?! Their music makes me want to hurt people lol. Please tell me you don't listen to them!If you like electronic music I'd strongly suggest picking up an xm or Sirius radio. The electronic dance channel has shows by tiesto, diplo, pretty lights, Paul oakenfold, a weekly George Acosta set from one of his shows capped off with 24 hours of arminn van burin (spl) a state of Sunday's (includes an above and beyond mix for an hour every Sunday). Skrillex drops in from time to time with a mothership mix. Benni benassi has a weekly show. As well as 4 different top 20 shows throughout the week. Need to tone it down the chill channel has a great selection of acid jazz, trip hop and just plain chill electronic. I do believe tiesto launched his own channel but I think you have to pay extra for it.
Tiesto makes you want to hurt people? Seriously, his stuff is rather melodic, skrillex and Benassi I can understand, as the reason I listen to those is the same reason I listen to slayer, 3 inches of blood. Electronic dance isn't my prefered unless I want higher tempo. My preference is the xm chill channel, but driving x country for 3x14hour days it's a bad idea to listen to relaxing music ya dig. Pretty lights does an awesome show. I generally listen to just those two channels whoever is playing a better song at that time. Lol better not listen to Dada Life either.I've spent a lot of time in the electronic music scene over the years, and as such have many friends who are DJs. When performing they do it just like any other musician would, and play the song from scratch. Since it's a little more complicated than playing one instrument at a time, they might have a few small things set up beforehand so it doesn't sound like crap. But they definitely don't just hit play.

I never knew there was a cute way to punch babies...but...alright :fear: lol.Tiesto makes you want to hurt people? Nobody likes a snob or an elitist other than other snobs or elitists.
And I was just listing who has shows on that station (forgot Hardwell, and a few others) Paul Oakenfold's voice alone actually makes me want to punch babies, and not in the "oh how cute he's punching babies" kinda way but the OMG MONSTER!!! There is an absolutly terrible drumline/minimalist crap show as well as some josh wink I cant stand.
Did I just read that right? Tiesto makes you want to hurt people?I'm sorry to be one of those awful music snobs, but Benny Benassi, Tiesto...Skrillex?! Their music makes me want to hurt people lol. Please tell me you don't listen to them!![]()
PVD is awesomeLove trance music, not 2 familiar with A&B though.
New album from PVD: Evolution
lol It makes me want to hurt people because it sucks so badly!Did I just read that right? Tiesto makes you want to hurt people?
Sigh....what has the world come to?
He was at the Commodore, I wanted to go so bad...PVD is awesomeI was thinking of going to his recent concert in VAN but exams kinda got in the way.
Not sure if your comparison telling me not to compare is comparing Tiesto to Led Zepplin but there's no comparisonComparing Tiesto to Skrillex is like comparing Led Zepplin to Nickellback, i.e. no comparsion. Listening to Nickelback non-stop at a camping trip (made the mistake of trusting a friend to bring some decent tunes) last summer made me wish I had burst ear drums...
I have higher standards than the Olympics, clearlyha that's pretty funny, to be fair, I've never paid for any skrillex and only know two songs (bangerang - pretty good, I want to kill everyoone - pretty bad) plus his mothership mixs. Hell I dont pay for any music (well I bought piano man off itunes awhile ago). Lol didn't tiesto suck so bad he got to play the olympics in greece? My preferences are more inline with something like Morecheeba, Greyboy, acid jazzy stuff. EDM just has much nicer upbeat for when I'm in an active mood, and pretty lights does a great mix show on the station.
Actually, as a music lover of all kinds, I have heard a lot of electronic music I have at least found interesting. This is an example from David Pritchard, decades ago. He was a DJ in Toronto (the kind that played records on the radio) who made music as a hobby.I'm determined to find some electronic music that Hank will like... I will succeed!
