Kind of reminds me of how we got Naslund from Pittsburgh for Stojanov. Pittsburgh had a lot of skill guys and needed to get tougher and we all know how that went.Stojanov went on to play like 45 some what games for Pittsburgh and Naslund had a pretty good career with the nucks.

Could be but we lost that cup because we weren't tough enough,Nazzy never even got close to a cup.

Ya you're right about that but Kassian couldn't even crack the Sabre's lineup when they needed toughest. I hope this kid can give the nucks some toughest and be able to play as well but I won't be holding my breath on this one. I'm happy for Cody, he'll finally get to play more minutes.

If they don't win the cup in the next 3 years, they'll regret this trade. Cody is not AV's type of player. This could be another Cam Neely type of trade. Not happy about this.
I am more surprised that not happy with the trade...I thought Cody was an untouchable...Gillis drafted this guy and kept saying he is the best Junior in the world at the time...

I can see Cody having an amazing career in the NHL ...but not 100% sold on it.

I guess if call 3 goals = can play. Then this kassian kid can play.
Sorry but I don't think you know anything about hockey. How many NHL goals did Cody Hodgson have in his first pro season? 1 NHL goal. And look at how well he's doing in his 2nd year.

Going by your logic, teams would rather have Radim Vrbata who has 30 goals over Lucic who has 21. See what else Lucic brings to the table? Can you see why the Canucks might want a guy like Kassian?

John Garrett on Team 1040 today was saying that Cody's dad was a big motivator to move Cody. He was bitchin about playing time and comparing him to other players his age in Edmonton etc etc. It was no secret that Cody was not in AV's good books either.

Too bad, I think the kid had some potential and hopefully doesn't turn out to be a modern day Cam Neely.

Wooo woooo woooo, lets not get crazy here. Cam Neely is a hall of fame power forward,CoHo is a poor mans Trevor Linden.Linden might be in the bc sports hall of fame, but he ain't in the nhl hall of fame.I know it was a long time ago now (8 months:rolleyes:) but the 'nucks got man handled by the bruins. That little weiner Marchand bitch slapped daniel cus he wasn't afraid of anything happening to him.
CoHo while skilled wasn't gonna scare anyone in this league.Kassian(if he makes it) will keep San Jose,Boston honest(along with Bitz)
Time will tell if CoHo makes the hall of fame, but i wouldn't bet my left nut on it.

Don't get too far ahead of yourself. Cody was not the type of player to scare anyone. Is that your measurement of a good player? come on :p

Neely was a good solid player while with the Canucks. Not a star 'yet' but still a solid player who could score, fight, make plays and dig the puck out from behind the net because his biceps were the size of the average person's thighs.

Then the trade and Neely took off when with Boston. Vancouver Fans couldn't believe the transformation yet alone the fact he was a BC boy who hit the big time. That is when trade remorse set in. Who did we get - Barry Pederson who was injured when he arrived and didn't really produce at all while here. Hence the Neely curse.

There are parallels here. Hodgson was in the top tier of the juniors like Neely. Neely didn't get going for the first three years in the league same as Hodgson. BTW have you noticed how many game winning goals Hodgson has scored lately?

Let's hope this is not one of those trades.

This should be a good trade for both teams longterm. But I think coho is better right now.
Everyone seems to assume if vancouver makes it out of the west, the bruins will be there from the east.

Coho was never going to get to be first or second line center on this team. In the next year or two he will be a top center on buffalo, and probably get 60-80 points. Kassian probably will get less points, so hope he makes up for it physically.
Maybe we play pittsburg in the finals, lose a bunch of 5-4 6-5 type games, with kassian taking silly penalties, wishing coho was playing.

hodson was brought in too late last year for it to be considered his 'first' year. this year is officially hodson's 'rookie' year. look it up

Kassian is pure shit right now...he has 39 hits in 400 NHL shifts...so don't expect this guy to run everyone through the boards...

Overall, it's a bad trade...Canucks gave away someone that can easily hit 30 goals a year....

A poor mans Trevor Linden...

First off, Linden is the most overrated Canuck forward by a country mile...
Linden averaged approx half a point a game over his career... WOW!!!!!!!!!!
Linden didn't fight...was actually a 220 pound pussy. And only hit around the boards which means nothing...never open ice because he didn't have the talent or the balls to do it!!

Cody already has 10x the talent of Linden and is just getting going...

I see Kassian having a couple of great games then fading quickly. Not a good pick up. At 20 he's not the guy you're going to use in pressure situations or the playoffs. The Canucks best chance to win the cup was last year, I doubt they make it past the 3rd round this year.

As for Hodgson he could never live up to all the hype (being called "The Next Trevor Linden" didn't help) and didn't fit in AVs system.

I am aware of that. Do you know what a "first year pro" is? It's their first year out of junior or college.

Hodgson was up and down from the minors his first year, just like Kassian has been this year (which is his first pro season). Kassian is a year younger by the way.

Exactly what I thought. Hodgson has been a success every level he has played at and after battling some injuries is rounding into a solid NHLer. Zack Kassian
is a gritty type of forward one needs for playoff success but 1. He is still developing and 2. It was done at the expense of a more talented player. Hodgson has always reminded me of Eric Staal and putting up the numbers he has in the past is not much of a stretch considering Hodgson's potential.

Also, didn't Gillis say he wouldn't trade away his prospects for short term gain a couple of deadlines ago? Typical Vancouver Canucks. I guess the more things change, the more they stay the same.

I really don't think you can evaluate this trade until 3 to 5 years down the road. Cody Hodgson on the Canucks, was a skilled player stuck in a 3rd/4th line role. He did very well scoring wise considering his limited ice time and limited PP time. Kiassian on the other hand, is more of an unknown but all the scouting reports say good things about this kid. If he turns out to be the big tough power forward that everyone expects him to be then this trade is great for both teams.

On another note, with the trade deadline gone, Looooooooooo is still here and Nash is not in a Canucks uniform. WTF is going on? Oh well, at least we can rest our ears from the BS rumors until the June draft.

Didn't have the balls??? Maybe you weren't born yet back in 94 but from what i remember he was the only one to score for the canucks in game 7(got his nose broken twice),he averaged nearly a point per game when it mattered(the playoffs) As a 24 yr old Linden was captain in the stanley cup finals & was a calder trophy candidate at 18.Cody Hodgson as we speak is at a half a point per game clip. Cody Hodgson must be leading the league in open ice hits? I get that Hodgson is a smart player(but slow) I think he'll get you 80 pts per season25-30 goals would be good for him but he ain't no Cam Neely.

The smell of Vigneault is all over this.

V never took to Hodgson and there were conflicts going back to last year. CH asked to be traded.

Kassian looked decent in his first game. Got good speed for a big guy... In 2-3 yrs he's will make a impact.
