Hopefully this verdict will survive the appeal process. But I wonder if this had been tried in BC, if they would have been found innocent but then again knowing how are justice system works here in BC, I wonder if it would have even made it to trial.
While I am not the biggest fan of our local courts, I don't think the outcome would have been much different here. The evidence was overwhelming, though it was disconcerting how many allies the accused had.

I don't know why that family even bothered fighting it, they had no chance of winning - and if they did, there would be such an uproar that the automatic appeal would have been fought to the very last letter of every document by prosecution, it would have cost the defense a ton of money only to lose.

I wish our government would bring back capital punishment. I respect their beliefs but I'm glad it has not been condoned in Canada. People like them make me really sad for the human race.

Agreed. That PI that the father had hired was one who seemed to have drank the kool aid. A horrible crime to act against your own family, your own daughters, sisters...heinous act of violence, to murder your own children, and the mother of your children. Disgusting, hope they rot.

Life, no possibility of a parole hearing for 25 years.

Under Canadian Law that's the maximum that a person can get.
Hopefully this sends a HUGE message to like minded people of that ethnic background....that honour killings will be dealt harsh justice....even more hopefully something like this does not happen again.

That's a real relief for sure..

But just curious.. What do you guys mean about the justice system here in BC? I know Quebec has a different system but what specifically would have been different if this had happened here?

Their belief is, that if their daughters dont follow the parents orders or talk to boys, the girls deserve death.
They believe other muslims will look down at them for not "fixing" this horrible embarrassing problem.
Their beliefs caused them to murder 4 people.

How on earth do you respect their beliefs?

I sure dont. I think Canadians need to send a message that we dont.

Can you personally imagine, your parents killing you, for dating?

Wow, first time to hear that you only praise them based on their job descriptions! :clap2: Bravo.
Back to the topic, I still wanna know what the sentence is before I call it justice!
I did not praise them based on their job descriptions. I praised them for doing their jobs well. There is a big difference, that you would not be able to distinguish.

When they apply to emigrate to Canada, we should demand they openly state that all of the freedoms they expect from us, they will and must extend to the members of their own family. If they refuse, we should refuse them entry.

That involves amending the Constitution Act because all laws in Canada have to be constitutional!

Doing your job well is implied in the job descriptions for every single job! So, no difference.
You are incredibly stupid. Sorry, but it's true. You can't tell the difference between having a job, and doing it well. No wonder you are unemployed; I certainly wouldn't hire you.

Yes. And it's a "mandatory minimum". Conviction on any murder charge results in a mandatory minimum penalty of life imprisonment. There can be some differences in the minimum term that must be served before achieving parole eligibility depending on the degree of the charge.

It's funny, but from all the Neil Boyd types who condemn mandatory minimums in other cases, such as using a gun in the commission of an offence, all I ever hear is that limiting a judges discretion with result in some injustices. But they never, ever bring up the example of penalties for murder. Why not, I wonder???
