Wow just heard that Ric Rypen was found dead today,Poor guy must have had some demons that he didn't know how to deal with :-(

Use to talk to a friend about him taking a time off cause of his personal problems. I thought back then wtf is wrong with the guy? Thought it was gf problems or something lame. Guess there's more important things than some job or hockey.
He had a contract with the Jets. Thing with depression at that age is often times the medication that your prescribed can make the symptoms worse, often with strong urges of suicide.
His agent reported it was suicide and than retracted the statement. It is really too bad, the scrappy personality is what the Jets are trying to bring out in all their players this year. You can't teach gritty or heart.
Very sad.
Last year after Moose game he was one of the 3 guys out in the concoarse signing autographs. My daughter and I were late getting there and an usher was leading them away. When he saw she had missed out , he made a point of turning around, walking over to sign her sweater. He took the time to chat with her for a few minutes before thanking her for coming out to support the team. She was beaming!
I haven't told her yet but I know she'll be very sad when she hears this.

Mental illness / depression are very difficult conditions to live with and treat.

On the radio they talked about ripiens gf during juniors driving out to see him,being in a accident,and dying. Saying that might have contributed to this.
some of the news media is now starting to use Rypien's death as a 'reason' for completely banning fighting in hockey. wtf?

What a coward. He killed himself. How can you celebrate that depression or not. Give me 700K a year and I'm sure most of the people on this board would live a very long time. Sad but VERY pathetic.
