are cfl contract guaranteed?

They way I understand it is that the contract is not guaranteed until a certain amount of games have been played. In Printers case, he will be paid for the balance of the year, but not for next year. If I am not mistaken if a player is on the roster after a certain point in the season,(not sure what that is, but probably somewhere around 10-12 games, then the balance of that years contract has to be honored.
I read that the end of September was the cutoff, he made it past that, so he gets paid for the rest of this year. If another team picks him up, the pay for the rest of the year may be negotiated in the contract.
Not that it is a huge sum of money......CFL players get paid chicken feed compared to NFL players......the contract at most costs the team maybe 200 grand....and most likely not that.....the CFL is one of the minority of professional sports that has not gotten swamped down with disgustingly large player salaries....it is also one of the few sports....that a spectator can enjoy/watch live and not get reamed in the ass....the price for season tickets for the Stampeders is not a great deal of money...on the flip side of the coin....for a guy to take his son to a baseball gme and watch the NY Yankees play costs a shotload of cash.

don't forget you make money if you win football games... not just partipate in them you know what i mean ya. maybe i be right or maybe i may be wrong... please correct me if i am wrong...
As far as I've heard, they don't make any money for winning games. They get paid what they signed for...except playoff games, than they get some extra money for winning, but not much. It's a pool that's split among the team. I know in the now dead XFL, they got a bonus for every game they won.
Too bad about Printers, I liked him. He seemed like a decent guy.
Actually, I wish CFL players got paid more, maybe not crazy NHL salaries, but I think the minimum should be more than $40-50K it is now, considering they entertain millions and risk injury every time they hit the gridiron.

If you look at the ratings for TSN football coverage, especially when Saskatchewan is playing, you'll see that there are "millions" of viewers.Millions, ha, ha, ha
Considering Canada had 1/10 the population of the US, a much higher % of Canadians watch CFL football than Americans watch NFL.
I'm much more impressed when a city the size of Winnipeg (pop. 700,00) or Regina (pop. <200,000) can draw 30,000 fans to a game compared to the 60-70,000 they might draw in some US city when they have 15,000,000 people in their region.
As for the contracts, in the CFL any VETERAN player's contract is guaranteed for the entire season once they have played or been on the active roster for the first 9 games of the 18 game schedule. For players on injury reserve or the 9 game injury list those games are also counted. So if you only played 6 of the first 9 games but were on the injured list for 3 other games you would also be eligible for your entire contract.
I always thought talent wise he was outstanding ie he had all the tools. I thought he might develop into a W.Moon type of QB.
I totally agree, but that was back in 2004. Since his return to the CFL, I don't think he has thrown a spiral to any of his receivers.
The single most important tool that Warren Moon had that Casey didn't was a brain.
Don't get me wrong, I was excited by his return, and whether it be his injury in game 2 or other factors, he never did regain his 2004 form.
To quote coach Wally:
“We're [financially] responsible to Casey for the rest of the year, we know that, that's not an issue. The issue is the club must come before all of us – me, you, any player.”

I did and the average is in the 700-800 thousand range, if you believe their stats, it barely gets to 1 million when the stubble jumpers are playing. Probably cause they either watch football or the dust blowing by.
It's now where the "millions" unless you are counting on a cumlative basis.
If it was then they wouldn't be making the average wage of a normal person working a job in Canada for the 5 months they play.
But hey, where else can you win one game and make the playoffs? lol
If your team can show up and not fall down you're pretty much in the finals. You got a fiddy/fiddy chance.

I think years in the league are a factor as well. If a player doesn't have at least a certain number of years (not sure how many), nothing is guaranteed.
