Since Breaking Bad was quite popular here I am guessing that so is Mad Men. Basically this is a thread to discuss this season as it unfolds over the next 3 months or so.

The season 4 premiere was last night. It starts about a year after the end of season 3's finale: it is thanksgiving of 1964 and we quickly learn what has happened at SCDP over the past year. We also see more of the ugliness inside Betty. I also liked Don having kinky sex with someone who looked like an escort.

uh...Edmonton.
I love Mad Men....I remember laying on my couch, flipping on the boobtube....and seeing this black and white show. Had not a clue what it was about...but it looked interesting. I actually, initially, thought it was a rerun from a period...but, then the back and forth banter sunk in....and I became intrigued. I stayed on that couch for 12 hours...it was a Mad Men reprise weekend....I'm going back 5? years. Good stuff indeed. I have actually used some of Jon Hamm's (or however you spell his name) lines on occasion. Such as....when my eldest daughter was over and started complaining about I can't remember what.....I said...."then, why are you here?".....a bit brutal, but apropo. I have a painted sign on my entrance wall....WHINING.....surrounded by a big red circle and line through it. Just a reminder to my babies and, likely, myself.

I would say it's the best show on tv...but I am no expert.

cheers,

eddie.

An awesome show. The best new show in TV, and a nice throwback to good old fashioned creative TV writing.

And I would walk across a football field of broken glass for one night with Christina Hendricks.

"Don't tell me what to do, I know how you like it. SLAP!" That was hottttttttt.

I'm smitten with Christina Hendricks. Apparently she does dye her hair red. I think I'm going to be her for Halloween...I have just the dress.

Mad Men is such a great storyline. I'm so glad this season has finally started!

I too am a big fan of Mad Men. Having dealt with Ad Agencies for the last 20+ years, the industry is, unfortunately, very much a "boys club" like that of Man Men's 60's era. Although the alcohol is not poured in the morning anymore, it is available from Noon on and is sometimes encouraged especially with the Creative Teams. As much as I can appreciate the Creative Teams, there is simply very little accountability. The Account Execs (suits) are in difficult positions as they try to please both the home team and the client. IMHO, the true heroes within the Ad Agencies are the Production Managers and the Art Studio Operators as they are the silent miracle workers who get the job done under extreme duress and rarely receive the well deserved accolades.

Peace

Why just for Halloween ? With the popularity of the show why not for sessions as well ????:p

Yes the slapping was very hot.

Everyone agrees that Joan (Christina Hendricks) is hot but I think Trudy (Alison Brie) is also very beautiful. People often mention Betty (January Jones) as well but I find her character so repulsive that I don't find her attractive at all.

The new babe that Don couldnt close the deal with in the cab looked hot. Betty's new mother-in-law looks to have the one-liners ready to go this season.

An interesting take on the fact that Betty has become the new 'bad guy' character on the show:

I think people are just catching up. I did not like her from the start, she can't even fathom the thought of living independently. She is emotionally cold and very distant (look at her relationship with her dad, Don and specially her children) and she has this sense of entitlement that I resent. Ugh.

I agree on Alison Brie, she is gorgeous... I'm curious to see where they take Joan and how Ken Cosgrove is brought into SCDP.

I wish they would bring Abigail Spencer back (Suzanne from Season 3) as she is one of my favorites.

So what did y'all think of this week's episode?

A very busy episode, and the party was a hoot, especially Joan in her hot red dress leading the conga line.

This is weird, but I also loved the way she quickly changed the party from "convalescent home to Roman orgy" (best line so far this season).

I'm hoping Roger is not reduced to just being the show's comic relief and one-liner specialist.

Disappointed Don broke the cardinal rule of business, dipping his pen in the company ink. The "morning after" scene was brilliantly written, and acted.

That kid who trashed the Draper home has Charles Manson written all over him - he's now beyond creepy.

The trailer for next week hints at a medical issue (pregnancy?) for Joan, and more stress in her marriage.

HALT!!!!

I didn't and can't read your post, cuz I missed the show tonight.

I will catch up.

I miss Breaking Bad, but this show is also an amazing storyline.

And another knockout dress on the red carpet for Joan:
