When the British were colonising Hong Kong, Singapore, and South Africa, do they speak the local language there? NO
When the Multi-national American companies send their employees overseas, do these workers speak the language of that country? NO
Many immigrants come here to get better education or better salaries, not give up their culture.
Imposing one's culture onto others is one of the rights of conquest. Looking at the BC government, and even Vancouver's city council, looks to me that Westerners are still holding the rein. Until such a time as the Asians take over, one is completely justified in complaining about disrespect for the ruling culture's standards and traditions.
Immigrants in Canada integrate into society far less than in the US. When I'm there, people tell me they're American. When I'm in Vancouver, people tell me they're Chinese/Ukranian/whatnot.
A nation is not a place you take advantage of for financial gain, for fuck's sake! Simply paying your taxes is a necessary but NOT sufficient condition for being Canadian.
When Kennedy famously said, "ask not what your country can do for you - ask what you can do for your country", he did preface it with "My fellow Americans"--but that is no excuse for the citizens of all other nations to ignore it. And so, my fellow Canadians....
PS and if you only want to be Canadian because you make more money here/feel more comfortable here/taking advantage of XYZ benefits Canada provides...
...GTFO!!
