just try to remember we are all being fed alot of hype on this issue. i know agencies who go into the amp's and micro's and give out info in language appropriate ways. they just do business differently. it's quantity, not quality and even from what've read some quality too!!!
here's what i wrote when the question came up else where recently. also, i recently met with GAATW- global alliance to combat trafficking in women. check out their page and get a clearer picture. just because a person works hard- 24/7- doesn't mean they are forced, some are sending money home like many other ex-pats.
trafficking does happen, just not as much as people fear.
i wrote as follows-
the buying sex is not a sport idiots are using debunked data and fear mongering. and the other video is also abolitionist rhetoric.
yes it does happen, but am begginning to think that the "trafficking victims" in the videos were never trafficked or even sex workers. they act as if they were in order to make money and further their goals of abolition. it has happened in the past where women have lied about being sex workers(having lived experience) in order to get jobs, justify their positions, etc. i have seen it with my own eyes.
you have to research the groups releasing these videos as to who is funding them. the salvation army?churches or religious groups? the problem is that the infamous "rape relief" women's shelter in in charge of alot of these activities here and receive core funding from the provincial government- health authority. because they enjoy this stability they can direct any funds trhey raise towards their political agenda- abolition of sex work.
sex worker run organizations are closing their doors because of a lack of core funding while these guys get to continue on un interupted by funding issues. we are fighting them all the time but is difficult without any financial support.
my parents told me a long time agpo to focus my efforts locally to see the best results and they were right. lucky for as a result of years of working with police, health, city staff,etc- in vancouver at least systems are aware of the "fear mongering for profit" of these groups and are not swayed or moved into action by such out and out lies.
yes, there were raids in vancouver in 2006-07. no trafficking victims were found and many workers were deported for working in canada illegally. i don't know if you all remember but as a result the AMPS started becoming micro's to hide from authorities and there were a group of cowards going around robbing the micros. it went on for awhile and no one called police for fear of deportation.
it all culminated when "brobrosan" was murdered defending the lives of workers in a yaletown micro.
so please. don't believe the hype. its the newest way for the feminazis to say we are all victims and need rescuing and none of us would choose sex work. remember, in engalnd there were supposed to be 80,000 victims of trafficking and after raiding 900 brothels, how many victims were found?....none.zero.
i have even recently had a chance to review new materials for the RCMP- a training video on human trafficking, and the focus of the video was not sex trafficking, it was construction workers. trafficking is not limited to sex work and in fact is far more prevelent amongst other industries. this just further supports what i have known all along. even the federales get it. these feminazi groups are using fear of the unknown-sex workers lives-to raise money.they don't care about the consequences and that people die. they would harm a woman to save a woman. total hypocrites and liars.
