Who are the players that you enjoy watching?

Here are a few of mine

Nicklas Backstrom (Washington) Elegant and intelligent playmaker who is starting to to shoot the puck more. Was Washington's best player last year against Montreal in the playoffs IMO.

Patrick Sharp: Leads a fairly hapless Chicago team in points and is a true sniper who can play both wing and centre.

Ryan Miller: The defending Vezina Trophy winner has been a blue chipper since his rookie year. Has had a bit of a rough go this season but still has elite ability.

PK Subban: My pick for rookie of the year at the beginning of the season. Great skating and stickhandling abilities plus he has a cannon of a shot. Has a ton of chirp and edge in his game, something the Canadiens have sorely needed.

To those wanting to respond to this thread please note, I don't want this to turn into a thread that only includes players from western Canadian teams (Canucks, Flames or Oilers). Also, I don't want women to say I like so and so because they are cute. This thread is intended for fans of the game in general and can acknowledge individual ability no matter what logo that player has on the front of their jersey. Please consider these things before you respond.

LOl. i like Eberle a lot, too. One of Canda's most clutch players ever at the international level.

i like pavel datsyuk the guy is underrated player and should be considered one of the leagues best players. might not put up the kinda numbers a stamkos, crosby, ovie etc but he is always close to the top players and he can also shut down any player in the league where as the forementioned players cant

Crosby, have you seen his "pyramid shoot?"
H. Sedin, best set-up man in the league
Carey Price, good BC boy leading the NHL in wins
Stamkos, pure sniper

not completely what it's made out to be.

first off, yes he does shoot down the stack of pucks. second, yes he does shoot the rolling puck. but the kicker is, they weren't done in succession. watch closely again.

before the last shot, there's only one puck left for him to shoot with. after he knocks down the roller, now magically there are two pucks there. it is assumed that there's one there b/c of the puck that went vertical after the slapshot that knocked down the pyramid. but that doesn't account for the other puck.

just some clever editing. but someone should be fired from reebok for making that continuity error.

Stamkos is on the top of my list right now.

Eberle & Hall could be a lot of fun to watch in the upcoming years too.

Claude Giroux from the Flyers. He's got sick puck handling skills and his passing is second to none. Wait a couple of years and this guy will be among the top 5 scorers in the league.

Thomas Plekanec is quietly putting together a stellar season after signing his big contract. A point a game pace, plays 5 on 5, PP and PK. Great on faceoffs, early candidate for the Selke Trophy.

Carey Price is on the top of his game rewarding the Habs management for laying all their eggs in his basket.

PK Subban is playing with such poise and love love love his spinneramas. Don Cherry should be ashamed of himself, he practically put a bounty on this young kid.

Patrick Sharp leads the defending champs in scoring, who would have thought?

Steven Stamkos is on pace for 70 goals, most exciting player right now. Not a big whinner like Cindy Crosby.

I agree with you about Price but also remember that the other reason they didn't re-sign Halak was to re-sign Plekanec. Nice to see him reward the team. One thing about Plekanec I have noticed is he has vastly improved in the faceoff circle. Must have lost 60% of his draws last year and now probably wins close to 60%.

Another player I will add, even though he is injured, is Zach Parise. I bet like Montreal NY Rangers and San Jose (among others) are kicking themselves for not picking him. A top line player who can do it all and as we saw in the Olympics, can come through in the clutch.

Philly got this very promising player for a bargain with that recent 3-year contract extension. :) :)

The senile old fart dislikes anyone in the NHL with any hint of personality over and above the usual cliche-spouting dullards.

I am enjoying watching Eberle play. Linus Omark looks great too...why the Oilers are still keeping him on the farm is beyond me.

My buddy in NYC watches Stamkos on cable and says amazing things about him. Give Eberle 4 years...

Claude Giroux is definately one of the best up and coming players at the moment. After the Flyers traded away Gagne due to cap reasons, Claude has stepped it up nicely to fill the void.

On the topic of Philly, I'd throw in an honorable mention to Ville Leino. The once detroit cast-away has been a strong presence on the lineup.

Stamkos simply for the fact that the kid is a magician. People know he's gonna shoot. Half the time, its always a shot from the same place, and yet, he scores. It's the beauty of simplicity and results when it comes to him.

Jordan Eberle's been mentioned a few times already but I don't think you can mention him enough. He's still in the process of stepping up his game to the NHL level and finding himself within the league, finding out what worked in the minors doesn't work at the NHL level etc. I wouldn't even wait 4 years, the kid is a clutch performer like Linden was.

Even though he's out right now due to injury, a strong presence for the St. Louis Blues has been TJ Oshie. The kid's got some hands, he'll definately be a good asset to any team now and later.

And I'll throw in Brandon Yip just cause I used to play with him back in the day. Good ol BC kid. Not the fanciest player but he'll get down and dirty and come out with some goals.

A couple more to bump the thread

Mathieu Darche: A great depth guy for the Habs. Works hard every night and has been used in nearly every situation since he came up from the farm last year. I also like the fact he is the first McGill grad to play for the Canadiens in 90 years (please correct that fact if it is wrong)

Alex Edler: He is the Canucks best defenceman. Plays both ends of the rink well and is somewhere between Mattais Ohlund and Nicklas Lidstrom in terms of his abilities. As steady as they come, he will lead the Canucks on the Blue line as long as the Canucks want to keep him there.

How can anyone talk about Stamkos and not mention Martin St Louis? He is one of the biggest reasons for the rise of Stamkos, just look at how much Lecavalier's production has dropped since St Louis was moved to the Stamkos line. One of the smallest guys in the NHL and plays with a lion's heart. Possibly the best undrafted player ever.
