Every time I come back to Vancouver I feel like it’s a good time to start getting into shape again. I was looking through several personal trainer’s websites but in all honesty I don’t need one. I’ve lots of acquaintances with kinesiology backgrounds more than willing to design workout routines and dietary plans for me, and I build muscle mass at an alarming rate just doing free weights occasionally.

Everyone says what I need is some cardio… I bloody hate cardio, but it’s the only thing that keeps the weight off when I’m back working long boring hours. I don’t mind a jog every now and then, but as time goes on I start taking any excuse to cancel. (I only have 12 hours to get this 30 minutes of work done, going for a jog today would be totally irresponsible of me.)

I’m curious how you guys keep motivated.

Have any of you SP’s considered offering a workout buddy with benefits experience? Most of you are in such great shape, some of you must be out there doing cardio anyways. Ever think of having a client along to break the monotony? You could get them to pay you for an hour session at the start of the week, then you run (cycle, hit the gym, whatever) together 3 or 4 times that week, and If they put out a solid effort you get to be their reward. If they skip out, or just don’t try, you get to pocket the money and tell them to go fuck themselves, literally!

Just a thought, Yay motivation! :thumb:

Yeah thats a reasonable assumption, I wasn't really posting it as a 411, was just curious if anyone had thought of something like that.

I was thinking more along the lines of her inviting him along on her standard workout sessions, under mutually beneficial terms (I find it more fun to do cardio together than seperately, I assume others do too?) Though that would probably only work if they had a past relationship or felt comfortable together socially.

Never really put much coinsideration into the payment, over and above the regular session rate would make sense though. With how I put it above, the one hour session booking could come with only a 30 minute reward at the end.

I'll admit, its not well thought through. I've been up far too long with far too little to do. :)

Heh, I don't think many of us would want our clients to see us during a workout. Could be a bit of a fantasy killer! Speaking for myself, I look absolutely horrible at the gym (but then again, they do say "if you look good at the end of your workout, you're not doing it right"!) Haha.

My music motivates me! When I hear a good song, I just wanna get out there and burn the pavement! Hence my many contributions to the Favorite Song thread. I've always been motivated, when it comes to exercise. I love working hard and being active. I've done it all (well not quite all)...gymnastics, aerobics, step, dancing, free weights, weight machines, badminton, swimming, skipping, every kind of cardio machine, walking, running 5k, 10k, half-marathon.

I think motivation is internal, and I always feel for people who can't get motivated to work out and stay in shape. They say you do have to find something you love, or you won't stick with it. Sometimes, having a fitness buddy is the best thing, because there's a committed party waiting on you to show up. But I've had fitness buddies jam out on me too, plenty! When you're choosing a buddy, make sure that their commitment is as strong (or stronger) than yours!

PS Paying for a gym membership is not a way to motivate yourself. Most people who sign up for a one- or two-year contract will go to the gym for a little while, but lack the follow-through. Then they'll just pay for their membership every month for the rest of the term, hoping that they'll find a good reason to go back to the gym. Gyms know this and seriously overbook. If all of their paying clients showed up, there'd be no room in the place for everyone!
