Today was my SO's birthday. This morning a couple of people begged out for their own reasons, which were entirely legitimate, and my SO fell into tears. I asked her if she was pre-menstrual and she answered "yes". Of course I tried to console her, but nothing was sufficient. Shortly before her party I gave her a ring with three nice rocks. That seemed to help alot. Shortly after that a bunch of people came for her party. We had a really great time with some really great people. Afterwards she said she had the greatest time. So what I'm wondering (after 25 years with women) is what the fuck is this about? I know that pre-menstrual issues have a significant effect on women because of the hormonal changes, but how does one change from complete despair to entire glee in the matter of three hours?

I used to use steroids, and know that hormones change moods etc., but that dramitic within that period of time? What gives? Almost sounds like a really short manic/depressive cycle to me. I know it's not, yet I don't understand :)

women take EVERYTHING personally! if someone doesn't wish me a happy birthday i just burn their fucking house down ... end of story. lesson learned. lots of happy wishes all the time now!

men simply look for cause and effect and fix one or the other or both ... women internalize every glance, look, smile, frown, change in the weather, paint colour, etc and cry about it.

you're doing the right thing: buy expensive baubles for the SO, drink lots for yourself, and say "its all my fault" at least once a day and its a happy marriage!

:)

I am laughing my ass off only cause I get it! Just accept it for what it is and dont try to understand it cause you probably cant. you did right by comforting and supporting her. what a good man you are. after 25 years of marriage you probably have this kinda thing figured out by now so give yourself more credit.
Actually, it's been 11 years of marriage, but I don't have anything fuckin figured out!! She's pretty regular with her "moods" but they never end at the same time and the fuckin cryin comes whenever! WTF? How does one deal with this? :)

I hear what you're saying Ghost, but this is whacked. Buy her a diamond ring and then need to sit in the rowing seat for the Vikings or some other fuckin group. Fuck!

I hear you FuZzuy, but I don't think it would be that easy. Long fuckin fight over every matter of property. Normally I could care less, but I've put a lot of time, money, and effort into this properety. Apart from that, I still love her to death. Apart from that, I still love her like crazy.

aight man, here is the REAL reason. It has nothing to do with pre menstrual issues but has everything to do with Birthdays.

When you throw a birthday party for yourself and friends cancel for legit (who really knows why they canceled is running through her mind) reasons it gets you thinking in terms of how much you mean to the people who you think are valuable enough to call friends. Basically,"Does anyone like me enough to come to my party?" Is ringing through thier fragile little minds.

All you can do is try to implant a little of the male ego into her. Or buy Diamonds. Or roll her up in a carpet and leave her in the basement till you have some spare time weight it and dump it in the Fraser.
