Would you stop to help a girl?

Just ran into this video. Note how good at ignoring it people are. Also note that it's only men who stopped to help her. These days, with cellphones, it doesn't matter what sex you are or how big you are. If people want to stop violence, they have to report it when they see it.

There is a high probability the good samaritan will be attacked by the aggressor. In many of the volatile situations this can mean a vicious beating or worse. I would somehow try and bring attention to the situation without becoming physically involved and I would immediately call 911. My life isn't worth risking for some dysfunctional strangers.

Friends of mine who are real live police officers say domestic disputes are their most dangerous and volatile calls for service.

Also, I hate those stupid "social experiment" videos. First, we do not get the raw data. Only videos that the poster wants to show are seen. Second, they can actually be dangerous. Imagine a good Samaritan with concealed carry permit giving the fake assailant two in the head. (Two in the head, make sure he's dead) These videos minimise the real dangers of violence.

I have stepped in to assist. Made sure I had an exit strategy, but by the time I was done the two went their separate ways.

Because I'm a woman and I understand my strength, which is close to zero compare to a man, I would sure try my best to kick him anywhere I can, but first I would call 911, then I would try to fight.

first I would call 911
Best advice yet!

Before doing anything, call 911. Even if it's only to cover your ass.
Several years ago a couple were having a violent argument in the street in front of my house. Teenagers, ugh. Long story short, guy is yelling in her face, literally a few inches, she's screaming in terror, he's slapping her, the whole nine yards. So I get in his face and push him away, he's dancing around like a boxer, challenging me to fight, but makes sure he stays out of range.
Cops come amazingly quick, two cars, guy immediately says I jumped him. WTF! GIRL BACKS HIM UP!! YOU STUPID FUCKING LYING BITCH!!!!
Fortunately a couple of neighbours had seen everything, there were multiple 911 calls. They came out to give their side.
Point is, without witnesses I would have been up shit creek.
All those people walking by without doing anything, maybe they have been through the same thing. It's easy to say you'd do this or that from the comfort of your computer. Different thing in real life.
BTW, the cops I mentioned in my earlier post: I was at the courthouse once and met one of them who was there to testify in a domestic. He was pissed off. The woman had just refused to testify against her boyfriend. It was the FIFTH incident between them, and the fifth time she had made a statement and then refused to testify.

Sad, but true.... The few times I've tried to interrupt what I deemed as a violent altercation it's ended up with the girl yelling at me to mind my own business and don't worry about what her man does and trying to fight me next. Keep in mind these were always in the heart of NYC lol

About 15 years ago, I was trekking through a park around 9 PM, and saw this couple fighting. The girl ran towards me, asking for help, the guy gave chase, and she went behind me trying to keep out of striking distance. She was clutching at my coat from behind while I fended off the dude. Eventually he got tired of the fisticuff game and ran off, and she cried a bit on my shoulder before going her own way...
Happy ending right? I thought so too till I realize she picked my pocket after I got home.

Good for you, such a gent. Truthfully, I would never do NOTHING. I would always call the police or alert nearby authorities (or maybe a man that looks big and strong) but I'm a teeny tiny person and physically, I can't do much.
I have stepped in and would again. I've had a broken nose and concussion from different occasions for my efforts, but I would do it again.

I like to hope that should a member of my family be assaulted by someone known or unknown to them that a by-standard might step in to help.

A rather depressing thing about domestic violence . I found out from my former criminal lawer frend of mine That this pattern of calling the police or ordering a Restrarining order. Then forgiving the party they had just put the order against or that they have just called the police on is all to common . He told me that a law partner of his liked to get these types of people as clients . Unlike any other criminal actions . That tended to go down and stop or leval off as the person ages with domestic violence is uniqe in that it is the olny criminal Act That tended to go up and become more freqent with age It was in fact the olny area of criminal behavior that did so. Ie as the abuser got older more domestic violence with his parnter always forgiveing him meant an ever increasing sorce of revenue for the criminal defence lawer . Untill the partner was killed or the criminal died .

friend of mine stepped in to reason with a dude that was roughing up a woman in the old devonshire hotel lobby. the dude tussled with him a bit then the dude and the woman fucked off

my friend sat down because he was feeling a bit giddy about it all, but when he stood up the chair was all covered in blood. he had a stab wound in his back that later turned out to have penetratrated his liver by a quarter of an inch

he healed, but he doesn't step in any more

the best advice, 'call 911'

Sea to sky
Done it before, don't know if I will again after the last time.
Was in whistler, saw a guy hitting a girl on the ground with a belt, pulled him off and went to see if she was alright, psycho picked up the belt and I took the buckle off the side of my head.

First instinct would be to run in and get in between them. However heard many stories like the other posts of the innocent bystander either getting hurt seriously or also getting charged with assault.
For your own safety best to call police first. If you yell that you are going to call police it may stop the guy or force him to run away. Could piss him off further but hopefully police would already be enroute. Also since almost everybody has a smart phone record what going on.

Exactly! No need to get in his face.
