Reading in another thread about Bob Barker reminded me of something I had long ago forgotten.

Success can often be defined as only being in the right place at the right time. Failure can often come about by making the wrong move at the wrong time.

Though there was no internet when all this took place, most know who Dick Clark is. A little research on Google will probably bring up more (and more accurate) information than I might remember.

But, this is what I remember. In 1952 (no, I do not actually remember this, it was passed along to me years later) a local TV station in Philadelphia began an afternoon dance show for teenagers called Bandstand. The host of the show was Bob Horn. It became very popular and the networks took notice and preparations were being made for it to be picked up by one of the networks (ABC, I believe).

Along about that time the host, Horn, ran into a little trouble. The news reports said he had been arrested for drunk-driving, but the local columnists were a little bit more explicit about the details. It seems like he may have gotten a little too "Horny" with some of the teenage girls on the show, who had themselves become cleebrities. Anyway, he was fired, and an unknown (Producer of the show, I believe) known as Dick Clark took over as host. Not long after that it was picked up by the network and the rest is pretty much history.

So, one tiny mistake and one guy looses his chance at riches, and the lucky benificiary, Clark, has made millions because of the tiny indescretion by Horn.

I wouldn't call it a "tiny" indescretion...
Sexually getting involved with a teenage girl is a pretty BIG choice to make, considering how dangerous it can be to your image, and in this case, career.

I'm also sure that there are many other sucessful men out there, who have made BIG choices, but haven't got caught.... it's all about getting caught!

Life is about taking risks. How much risk you wanna take, is up to you.

Polanski?

Just ask Roman Polanski all about it.
He'd arguably be the worst person to ask about indiscretions affecting your career... Outside of the US/Canada he's pretty much as respected a director as ever.

Sometime way back in the 1950's the Pittsburgh Steelers had a young unheralded quarterback by the name of Johnny Unitas. A great move for Unitas to sign with the Baltimore Colts after being cut by the Steelers. A horrible move by Steelers.
