In the 'patent medicine shows' in the later part of the 19th/early 20th century, every scam had two perpetrators; the pitchman and the shill. The pitchman sells the Miracle Cure; the shill drinks it and suddenly, "WHOOOOOO-EEEEE! No more rheumatiz!!!!" He's the guy who can't lose at three card monte, the one who wins the big teddybear on the Midway...the one that suckers you into thinking your luck might be JUST as good.

hahaha ... thanx for putting an image to mind ... when I was in NYC out-n-about I would come across some very colourful people one which was a 'pitchman' with his 'three card monte' and I was designated the shill! :nod:
