So I guess an MA is basically something educational that you do for fun, like a pottery class or tai chi?
Hello, of course a master degree is useful. I've known people who moved up the corporate ladders immediately after they completed their MBA with higher pay and better status.

When I said MA I meant MA, not MBA, MSc etc. No argument here that an MBA would increase your earning potential substantially.

Oh ok. I've known people with MA degrees have very good careers but I believe it depends on the discipline which the person has studied, for example, a MA in Psychology, Counselling Psychology or Social Work can help someone to become a psychotherapist, and a psycotherapsit can make a lot of money. I knew a guy who had a MA in Social Work, he made over $80,000 per year. A MA in Sociology or Criminology can easily get someone into the supervisory position in the government, e.g. RCMP, Citizeship & Immigration and etc. :)

As for MA in other subjects like philosophy, English literature... I'm not sure.. perhaps one can become a professor with those.

You need Police experience of about 5 to 7 years to get a senior position or supervisory position within the RCMP...so no it's not easy.

But hey if you're a civil servant with the Federal Government for a few years, you can be appointed the RCMP Commissioner, Canada's top cop.

Interesting little piece in the Sun the other day, guys with A averages in High School and a string of letters behind their names, usually end up working for bosses that had B averages, in companies owned by guys with C averages that dropped out of High School.

Anyway, good luck with it and congrats.:D

Oh, will it make it any easier to get laid.:p

Oh I see, I didn't know that, but I'm sure a MA helps.

Hey, thank you! Well, I dropped out of high school and I had a C average. I do own my own business. :D But it's probably going to fail since now I've got my university degree. :D I'll see if it helps me to get laid. :D

I am doing my BA in political studies, not sure if I want a invest in an MA. The only practical reason (besides wanting an academic career) I have heard for getting an MA in poly sci is to compete for jobs with people who do (a stupid reason I think). Do you think there would be much practical benefit to an MA in PS?

Hey bro, it depends on what kind of careers you are planning to pursue in the future. If you plan to work for the government, an MA in Political Science will definately be a career booster. If you plan to work for a company that does marketing, having an MA in Political Science might not have much practical benefit. :)

Congrats on graduation. I know how hard it is to do post-secondary skool nowadays. At least that helps with generating enough income to poon more!
