Anyone checked out the street scene in Winnipeg. Seems pretty dead, but I noticed some action on Parr and mackenzie...

Sorry to be blunt, but here's my analysis of the streetwalkers that I've noticed:

Crackheads.
Monsterously ugly.
AIDS-ridden.
Gang-member pimps.
LE.

it was on news few nights ago.

according to the propaganda of the news media (CTV News) there are 300-400 sex workers advertising on CL and walking the street in the city of winnipeg every night.

Sorry to bring this thread back from the dead, but after happening to be in the area of the old SW haunts, I didn't see a single one out there. Where did they move to now?

(Not that I am interested, I just find it sort of funny that they seem ti migrate every few years....LOL)

The police have had a big crackdown lately, seizing a bunch of vehicles and charging men and SWs. It was on the news last week.

They are likely all in jail. The LE has been out there Hardcore.:D
The SW scene here has been brutal for years.
We used to do drive-bys after the bars were closed - not that we would ever dream of getting a SW to come near our car - I just find it funny how they used to be around Princess & Alber, then Higgins, then Sargeant, etc etc etc....

We should do a tracking study.... wonder if I can get Government funding?
:D:D:D

I don't know if any of you realize this but here, in Winnipeg, the women who work on the street are known as survival sex workers...they are working for food, for shelter and yes, for drugs...they are addicted and in many cases have been forced into that addiction to keep them on the streets...

Anyone who picks up these women is simply exploiting them in their time of need...no tricks means no cash means they will hopefully seek out whatever social services they need...Shame on LE for their sweeps - put that money into exit programs and job development...

Spend the extra cash or save up your money and go to an MP; call up an Indy girl...if the demand for exploited, victimized women dries up, the supply of these poor women will soon decrease as well...they are mothers, daughters, sisters...not disposable people to use because you don't want to spend the extra cash - think with your big heads - give these women the respect they deserve...

That is a great post. I after spending time at hooker camp with 38 SW's I felt terrible for them.
But there is help out there for them, it's whether they want to take it or not is the question. They are offered welfare, housing, meals, clothing, help finding employment, you name it. You'd be amazed what services there are for them. I personally think the LE want to show these women that they are cared about. They don't just go busting them to get brownie points, but to get them into the programs that are out there. I'd name them but I don't think it's needed on here. Not many SW's frequent here.

But I do have to say that you seem very compassionate.

PrickAsso & ladyluck = two very good threads, except for "shame on LE for their sweeps"
if the LE saves a few of them, it's worth it. And if someone (john) gets nailed for trying to pick up a girl under age knowing it, they also need help. Poor Girls !!

BUCKIT I understand what you're saying...and I would agree if I didn't know of the intimidation used and horrible situations LE puts some of those girls in...it's pretty brutal...as for the johns, they need to be educated..obviously I don't have an issue with seeing SPs or going to MPs but the guys that pick up SWs need to know what damage they are doing...

In today's Free Press:

Sex trade worker lying, trial told
Man accused of raping pregnant addict

By: Mike McIntyre

He admits to picking up a drug-addicted sex trade worker when she was nearly eight months pregnant and paying her $40 to perform various acts.

But a 45-year-old Winnipeg man denies beating, threatening and raping the 27-year-old mother-to-be after getting her alone in a secluded location.

James Lovell pleaded not guilty to sexual assault Monday at the start of his week-long Queen's Bench trial. He claims sex was consensual and the alleged victim is lying to police and the courts.

The woman took the witness stand and described a harrowing life on the streets which began at the age of 14. She testified this was the first time she'd ever been raped by a "bad date."

"I offered him the $40 back to stop what he was doing to me," the woman told court.

She was standing in the North End on the night of June 27, 2007 trying to make some quick cash to feed her cocaine addiction. The woman said she was picked up by Lovell and driven behind a building on Logan Avenue.

She said Lovell became violent when he was unable to get an erection, assaulting and threatening to kill her before eventually forcing intercourse. He then drove her back to the North End and dropped her off.

Police in the area were flagged down by the distraught woman. One officer told court Monday she was "frantic" as she ran into the street, waving her arms saying she'd been raped.

The woman provided the licence plate of the "john" and led police to the location of the alleged attack. Investigators seized two condoms at the scene which were later traced to Lovell through DNA.

Lovell's lawyer repeatedly questioned the woman about her drug and alcohol use, suggesting her recollection of events from that night may have been impacted by her intoxication. Queen's Bench Justice Colleen Suche had to warn the lawyer to drop his voice when confronting her on one occasion.

Crown attorney Mike Desautels is expected to call his final witnesses Tuesday. Lovell may then take the witness stand in his own defence.

Suche is hearing the case without a jury.

I don't know what's worse in that article, to be honest - the fact that that piece of garbage was beating her, or the fact that she was 8 months pregnant and selling herself for drug money....
