i have a few unlocked phones and they have a promo phone for 35.00. Was told by wind to go to one of their stores and try out their sim card see if the frequency work.

Find the frequency of the phone and ask Wind if they support it. They're good with unlocked phones. American iPhones won't work. They do data at 2100 mhz and voice I think at 1700. Call them, they will tell you. The Blackberry does this very well.

Yah the phone thing is pretty tricky. They had the same wicked deal over the summer where they were offering 1/2 off the plan you mention. A few days before the promo was to be over I bought a phone online (not from Wind as they had even fewer options then than they have now), assuming it would work since it was unlocked. But I figured I should probably still check Wind's website, just in case, for some reason the phone wouldn't work.... and thank god I checked because it didn't! At that time, the only other option they suggested was the google phone (or something).. Anyway needless to say I cancelled my phone purchase from newegg and missed the promo. lol

But now I noticed they have quite a few new phones, so not sure what the deal is because the way they made it sound a few months ago, was that there were very few phones that would work on their network for the time being. So I don't know..lol What I do know, which was a bit of a deterrent when I was considering them, is that it isn't as simple as using a Wind Sim on any unlocked gsm phone (which is what I had assumed until I realized the phone I'd bought wouldn't work). You have to have a specific kind of phone (I'll go look up the info again and post) which made the whole thing too complicated then. It's a bit better now that they have a few more options in the phones they offer. BUT they still don't have iPhones. I'm also looking for a phone that is Wi-Fi enabled so it narrows down the options...

Also - The thing with this promo, LAG, is that for it to apply and you get the money, you need to make sure you stick with them for the full year. That's when they give you the $$ back. If someone doesn't stick around for the year, you don't get any $$ off at all.

Myself, I checked out Wind again recently but I have to say I'm leaning towards Virgin Mobile right now as I like the "tab" idea they borrowed from Koodo. (Except Virgin offers way better and more phone options than Koodo!) So you pay x amount when you get the phone + plan (x = small portion of total cost, depends on phone you choose) and then they add a small % of the balance owed for the phone on your monthly bill. And you're not stuck with a contract. Because as I've said before, I hate those contracts ! ha!

But in the end, who knows I may still change my mind again... Until I have the phone in my hand and am sending my first text messages, nothing's guaranteed. lol So Wind's not necessarily out of the question even if Virgin is clearly in the lead right now. lol But I have to say that between choosing a provider, a phone, a plan..... all these options are just making it freakin' impossible to make a decision.

Edit to add:

This is what their website says:

".. unlocked and compatible with our AWS/1700 Mhz/BandIV network."

Oh yah! I know exactly what that means and it makes perfect sense to me.

COULD THESE COMPANIES NOT ALL HAVE THE SAME FREAKIN' KINDS OF PHONES? Argh... SO annoyingly confusing!! I don't know anything about that crap and it's not at the top of my list of things I just can't wait to learn about. lol But seriously....ugh

i have a unlocked phone im bringing to a wind store to see if it's compatiable with the wind network. If not i'll just not switch till they come out with a better selection for phones. Im currently month by month so i can take off anytime on fido. Kinda confused also but i'll let these companies bid against each other.
