Waiting to confirm, but told multi yr deal w Desjardins & @VanCanucks very close.
@NHLNetwork @NHL.
Praise Linden and Benning. Uptempo aggressive offense hockey? Sign me up.

Hopefully he doesn't pull an Eakins and ban all junk food from the locker rooms and press conferences. John Garrett will be out for blood. He'll have to make his Kraft Dinner heated via hotplate in the bathroom. Like an animal.

Ha! Glad it is him and not the coach of The Portland Winterhawks which was a rumour. From people who know the latter, he was a totally clueless individual.

I like it and hope the rumour becomes a reality.

Thankfully they are not throwing Crawford's name in the mix.

smart move by the nucks - hire a guy with no nhl experience - when the canucks miss the playoffs next year, and the year after - they can blame their rookie head coach. Barry Trotz, that was the man to get, what a shame.

He was an assistant with Dallas. Not a lot of available NHL experience coaches available now that we would want...Blysma? Carlyle? Muller? Only one I had interest in was Trotz.

Lol what a stupid comment Mike Johnston has forgotten more hockey in the past 5 minutes than you and your group of "knowledgable" friends will EVER KNOW.

Do you know anything about "that guy from the portland winterhawks". Because apparently you don't.
Well, I was just regurgitating what my friends were saying (ex-players / officials so they may not see the whole scheme of things / may have an axe to grind). This is an Internet forum, I'm allowed to spout nonsense :p

I really don't think Tampa is regretting hiring Cooper over other more veteran coaches. WD and Cooper have very similar pedigrees, with the biggest emphasis on their abilities to develop young players.

Johnston undeservedly got a lot of the brunt dealt out for the Winterhawks illegally acquiring players into the CHL but he's still a phenomenal coach nonetheless. He would have easily been my second choice had WD gone to Pittsburgh.

I was honestly hoping they would land John Stevens. LA made sure they didn't. I was probably the happiest guy in BC the Day Trotz signed in Washington.

Glad there were no Guy Boucher,Peter laviolette sightings. Glad Blysma is still searching for a job. He was in Vancouver on Tuesday. Met with Jennings and Linden. But you never know who is going to turn up.

I can put a bit of support behind Desjardins primarily because Glen Gulutzan and he have worked together in Dallas

From the NHL.com. Desjardins is one of a handful of candidates reportedly being considered for the Vancouver job. The list includes Portland Winterhawks coach Mike Johnston and former NHL coach Marc Crawford.
The Canucks, who fired John Tortorella on May 1 after one season as coach, have asked for permission to interview New York Rangers associate coach Scott Arniel.

Desjardins coached under Crawford and Canucks assistant Glen Gulutzan in Dallas.
Well, maybe the Penguins can rehire Bylsma with a headline in the tribune the next day: "Well, fuck it, we tried?"

Penguins have screwed themselves over by starting weird (and totally unbased) rumours about Babcock maybe going there next year. So now either they're delusional and don't want to hire a coach for longer than a year or they're likely scaring off prime candidates. I just find it fucking hilarious.

Oh, and Laviolette signed in Nashville almost a month ago. Tsk Badger, you're slipping.

Far as I can tell, Vancouver doesn't have a cup in its history and its not getting better.

President Linden: No NHL Presidential experience
GM Benning: No NHL head GM experience
Head Coach Desjardins (assuming he is hired): 57, no NHL head coaching experience

They want to:
-Trade a 29 year old top American centre who was one of their best players on their cup run. I guess I should say they have to after the team went toxic last year.
-Keep and not ask to waive no movement of two aging Swedish 1st liners who will probably be a step even slower next year and no more effective.
-Not try to move Alex Edler although his stock has almost no value, who was -1 billion last year.
-Consider a "maybe" goalie in Lack after a sure thing in Schneider was traded for a projected 2nd line two way forward.

Obviously a lot of the above was Gillis, who did a decent retooling for the run (not compaired to Lombardi) and then garbage after. However the current group says they are going to make the playoffs next year. People wonder why a Canadian team hasn't won the cup in a million years? Its because of crap like that, can't blow a team up properly and Edmonton sort of did it but forgot to draft any decent defensemen and their blue line is currently trash and they have the same type of forward 5 fold.

Should go well for the Canucks with Anaheim, SJ and LA all making pound cake out of Gillis' undersized and soon to be EVEN slower team.

Sure if you enjoy trotting around looking like an idiot. Have at it or join a board where the true idiots live like the CDC. - canucks forum (where you can talk to 6-9 year olds about their vast hockey knowledge. How like Burrows is like the greatest player ever brah) or Sportsnet forum fueled by fools. Lol You'll fit right in. Lol
Hey now, HFBoards is (mostly) sane. But I'm biased. :p

Yeah I hear that Benning bagged groceries at the Save-On and Desjardins sold sunglasses out of a kiosk at the mall before being hired. Such an absolute disaster I tell you. Does this Linden guy even know how to hockey? I mean, years of being NHLPA experience is pretty much the same as being a barista at Starbucks.

Admittedly, I don't follow the coaching sweepstakes as closely as many, but I'd like to ask....was Johnson fired, along with Crawford, after the 2005-06 season?

Also, as he's done so well in Portland, maybe he's happy enough to stay there, rather than pursue an NHL job?I know the NHL job would pay more.

re Willie Desjardins...I read somewhere, think it was the Province that he spent the n2011-12 season as assistant coach under Glen Gulatzan(sp?) and felt marginalized,
leading him to ask for the head coach pos'n with the farm club,Texas Stars.
Wonder how the chemistry would be if he's head coach here, with G.G. working under him?

Everything I've read (which is very little) states that Gully and Desjardins have a good relationship.

Bruce Boudreau was a career coach in the farms before getting his NHL start in Washington and now Anaheim.

Trotz would have been a good choice as well.

Well....here's my opinion. A lot of the Canucks players and staff are clients of mine. As much as we can criticize Mike Gillis for decisions he made, the bottom line is that he wanted to win a cup for Vancouver. We are all wannabe GM's and think it's that easy. Mike took chances on some trades and they did not pan out. Mike told me that Luongo said no to two trades prior to the draft. Not defending Mike but it is what it is. I've been a fan and season ticket holder for 8 years. I'll continue to support my team. I think Willie Desjardins will be a good coach for us. Just because you don't have NHL experience doesn't mean that you'll fail. I think Benning came from a great winning organization and culture. He's not that great in front of the camera but that's what Trevor is for. TL is a friend of mine. He took a chance from being the guy who everyone loves to placing himself in this position. Let's see how long before the honeymoon phase ends. Willing to give this group a chance. The Aquilini's are still willing to spend up to the cap and i'm thankful that the ownership group is willing to do so. A lot of players had a bad year. I can't believe that everyone had a bad season at once. So....i'm going to place some blame on Torts coaching style. I'm not a bandwagon fan. We still have a decent team. Let's see what happens during free agency and draft day. And stop giving out all of these no trade clauses. Jannik Hansen?? Really?? No trade clause? Weird.
