Having just done my taxes I became curious why this misnomer came into use. I mean, unles you are a registered charity, it is illegal to accept donations isn't it?
Is it because it puts the onus on the SP and is a less serious crime than paying for sex in the US? Donating so a woman won't say no to sex. But that would be bribery. Hey are bribes taxable? That would solve the problem.. "no your honor I was not paid for sex, I was bribed to do it for an hour."
Of course in Canada it would be "Your honor, of course I was paid for sex, what, do I look like a slut to you?" Lol.
I guess when you hear on the news about a family who's homeless due to their house burning down, there is often an account set up for donations. So do they just claim it as income? I know when I donate to the Womens sexual asault center, it's a tax write off. Would the homeless family scenario qualify? Any tax adjusters here that can answer that question?
