Why/How are there so many US Plates on Vancouver Island ?

I thought the border was closed.
I kid you not - this week alone I have seem plates from California, Idaho, and Texas. TEXAS!
No way in hell do they have essential business to do here in Victoria...
What gives ?

I work at YWG and know there are thousands of US citizens living in Winnipeg. Hundreds of military too.

The definition of essential worker is so vague pretty much anyone can qualify. You should see some of the line ups at the ambassador bridge, hard to believe it’s restricted access sometimes.

I found it easier to cross the border last year than usual. Went down 3 times in 2020, last time was in October, and she asked me how long we planned to stay, I replied about 5 days or so, she scanned our passports, and told us to have a fun time.
