Was reading an ad written by an SP, asking people to not use Skip the dishes, and other delivery services. Got me wondering what some people hate about them?
Used them myself, never had any issues, and will use again. But would enjoy hearing the opinions of others.
Because most of these places take huge cuts of the restaurants profit .
My family has restaurants in Vic , they use their own drivers or ask they’re customers to pick up the food to allow the restaurants to keep as much profit as possible ; the more we use the middle men (Uber eats , skip the dishes ) the more restaurants will close . We’ll be like all the other provinces that only have big chain restaurants and no mom & pop places.

When a restaurant offers delivery, then yes of course, use that. But thousands of restaurants don't offer that option, so Skip the dishes, or other service, is then the other choice, short of going to get it, which can range from inconvenient, to extremely difficult. Besides those drivers, they deserve to make money as well, I tip the delivery driver every time.

I totally understand what your saying and I know for some people it’s the only option for them to get the food they’re wanting , they don’t drive etc, all I’m saying is “if” you can directly support your favourite restaurants by seeing if they deliver or take some time , it’s not like we all don’t have some extra time to kill to pick up your food , you can still tip the staff as if you would an driver . It’s just something that needs to be brought to attention as you will see a great number of your favourite places close in the coming year due to this exact way of eating , the pandemic in combination with a middle man delivery system is the death of small independent restaurants .

A variation on the theme is restaurant booking. Open Table takes a significant cut when you book a restaurant reservation through their service. I always book directly with the restaurant. It can be confusing, because when you search for a restaurant you may land on the Open Table site.
