the fans...

the same type of fans that tried to vote Rory Fitzpatrick to the all-star game last year...

never really cared one way or the other...

never watch the game anyways...

simply a PR exercise...

in fact glad it is over, now we can get back to real hockey...

He was never voted in. He was added as a reserve by the NHL. He was sent becuase the league needed some name recognition there after many of the 'big names' couldn't go for various reasons (Crosby, Heatley, Zetterberg, Luongo, Brodeur, etc.).
my mistake...

part of the reason I was not aware of that, is the fact I do not really follow any of the all-star game hoopla...

and never watch it...

thank god it is over and we can get back to real hockey now...

I recall hearing talk radio host Dan Russell bash Luongo for no going to the all star game because he wanted to be with his wife who was expecting in the next few months. I can't stand Dan Russell and I think more people are tuning into team1040. I think Russell is not exactly endorsing the Canucks but he'll never admit to that.

agree, russell is a clown..

but for a different reason...

russell shouldn't endorse the canucks, he is a reporter not a cheerleader...

1040 is also a joke because they are all wishy-washy homers...

jim robson is the only good hockey media/play-by-play guy this city has ever had...

Robson/Hughson

Vancouver has been bleesed over its history to have two of the best play-by-play announcers in hockey. It will be a sad day in Vancouver when the CBC decides they want Hughson for Maple Laughs games.Bob Cole has lost it and they will want to replace him...

anyone criticizing luongo these days is an asshat!

his wife is having a 'difficult' pregnancy and if he wasn't
allowed to be with her or pressured not to go see her
then you can bet the heat would be on for him to find
another team when his contract comes up.

he is about the only hope this team has these days and until
they drop that six million dollar pile of crap captain they can't
pick up a couple decent players.

Hey Lonely Ghost;

You hit the nail square on the head.

Despite his recognition I think Luongo is underrated. Without him, the Canucks have a good chance at cracking 12th place in the west. With him they can challenge for the division and certainly have a chance at the playoffs.

And the Captain...should have been traded at the same time as Bertuzzi...or before. He has always been a defensive liability and certainly doesn't have (nor has ever had) a lot of "Captain-like" qualities. WTF were they thinking giving him the "C"...give it to somebody who cares, who actually wants to win the Stanley Cup. I bet Naslund is scared to even say "Stanley Cup".

That being said, who should have the "C"?

In my opinion the "C" should go to the individual who embodies what your team stands for which should include (in no particular order) desire, focus, respect of his teammates, charisma. Even though he is a goalie, I have to say Luongo. Mitchell gets a close second.

hey JS,

unfortunately I believe that goalies can't have the C ...

I would have given it back to Linden ... its really his only strong suit ...

the next guy would be who ever shows leadership ...

and along with Nazzi the nucks need to reconsider morrison ... he
got a sweet deal and just hasn't done the job since Buttoozi left town.

$9 million bucks may not buy you a bunch of winners, but Capt Crap
and his sidekick aren't getting the job done either.

I really thought maybe this year the nucks would show some promise
but its another first or second and out ...

the worst thing is Luongo only has two years left on his contract ...
the nucks have to put a team in front of him soon or he's going to
the highest bidder ...

probably Detroit!

ugh.

good post lonelyghost...

first i want to say i am not a canuck fan...

i agree, the canucks without luongo are bottomfeeders...

however he is the best goalie in the league and he has shown in the past that he can single handedly carry a team...

if he gets in the zone that he has shown he is capable of in the past and with a bounce here or there they could go deep in the playoffs, or at least have a chance to...

goaltending is the critical mass position, especially in the playoffs...

do not dismiss this team quite yet...

agree with you about naslund and morrison...

linden is an overrated twit...

but I do want to say they have the KEY ingredient with luongo...

actually, in Florida, Luongo was NOT able to single handedly carry a
team ... its why he was reluctant to re-sign and was traded to the
Canucks for a plane ticket and some luggage ...

thing is, Luongo is a fierce competitor and he had a solid season last
year because he stood on his head to prove he could ...

This year, the Canucks are again playing garbage in front of him and
his frustration is starting to show ...

There is nothing that can be done about injuries, but Nonuts and
his picking through garbage for players like Isbister (and whathisname
from last year?), Ritchie (this year's Bulis?) or Cowan ... we're
paying COWAN over a MILLION a year????

Not to mention a waste of space like Matt Cooke getting over a million ...

Viggi might like his 'scrappy' players but there's a lot of difference
between 'grit' and 'shit' ...

Hey LG

I am not really a believer in goalies having a "C" either, but there really isn't another candidate on this team yet. That is actually quite a statement in and of itself.

I would have agreed to give it to Linden...when he first got back to Vancouver....its too late now. Can you say "twilight of his career"?

My prediction is that Vancouver gets bounced in the first round, possibly the second round if Roberto has a superb playoffs. I also agree that his frustration is starting to show...

For BMo and Captain Sweden Van should be able to get something...anything....help!

Totally off topic, but i like what the Ducks have done by bringing Needhermayer and too much salami back. They are looking good.
