Who created ISIS? The West did.

Interesting discussion on Bill Maher with Michael Ware last week.

Ware is an Australian journalist who went to Afghanistan a few months after 9 11 and essentially stayed in the region, moved to Iraq pre Western Invasion and has been there almost a decade.

in this brief interview with Maher, Ware asserts it was the West who created unwittingly what we now know as ISIS.

The transition point according to Ware was when the counter insurgency became highjacked by al Zarqawi and turned into a religious war.

Pretty chilling words "every insurgent killed creates three more".

But this isn't news. This was exactly what Bin Ladin et al planned with the 911 attacks because it was a certainty that this would happen if he could get western military involved in an Arab country. Surprisingly, the west didn't learn the first time & went on to do the same thing in Libya and, for good measure, dabbled in the Syrian uprising to help the Islamists really take root in the region.

What the political class has always seemed unable to grasp about revolutionaries is that they don't have to make the people like them to succeed. They just have to make things worse for the average person and make them believe that the current government is incapable of providing order and basic services. The best way that a revolutionary organization with its minuscule power to do this is to get a major power to do the disruption for them. The local government is the usual target that they get to over react & flounder around but in an Arab country, nothing provides an easier propaganda shorthand than getting Christian crusaders involved. The history of the crusades in the region provides an easy framework to assign dark motivations on the foreign invaders and change the story from one of secular issues to one based in religion.

The real problem with the US response to date is that they no longer have any strategic reason linked to national security to be involved in the middle east today. They did have a strategic need for gulf oil in the past but those days are gone. The military knows this but the politicians seem to be trapped by history into acting in today's world in response to yesterday's needs. Absent western forces, the local political situation will sort itself out in time.

Meanwhile the west can choose to redirect the funds it is currently spending on inflaming the situation into mitigating the humanitarian problems that now exist as a result of this unrest. The first step in this is for western forces to stop directly killing local people; something Mr. Trudeau has done but has failed to clearly articulate the reasoning behind his decision. That he has chosen to instead redouble training of a different terrorist group that, like ISIS, is also planning to carve out its own country (Kurdistan) from the existing countries in the region is pretty short sighted as well.
No not new news at all. Where do you find the link to support the statement in bold?

It was interesting listening to someone who had personal knowledge of the area and what had not worked to date.

I recall back when the US invaded Iraq under what I thought were dubious reasons aka WMD. I was quite vocal about this issue. I would say "pick a fight with the Muslims in the area, expect all the crazies to come to fight the infidels in their defence".

I work in the high tech industry and a factory rep from one of the Red States was visiting my territory. He thought I was being disrespectful to their American President for saying the USA had made a huge mistake for taking their eyes off of Afghanistan. As time went on, I was proven correct in my assumption and he had to eat a huge portion of Crow.

News Flash!

"The West" has been meddling in the affairs/future of many countries since the "British Empire".
At least back then they were a bit more honest about why. But only a bit.

The last thing america wants is peace; the military idustrial complex makes billions in profits, the poilticians use it to instill fear (and thus manipulate the masses), and it takes the spotlight off some of the critically important issues (global warming, impending enviromental catastrophes, over population)

I'm not around here much anymore, but I'd like to throw my view in here.
I've been there, and fought alongside Canadian ,and American Soldiers, and dishcharged my weapons in defence, as well as anger.
I was just a common sand grunt, with no authority..But the general opinion among the troops was...
"We will bring the fight to the enemy, away from our soil...We will keep them so busy defending their own house, they won't attack our own."
I have seen first hand what a "Taliban Law Enforcer"..And I use the term lightly, will do to a woman with a family, just on the rumour she has stolen something...If she does survive the encounter, she may wish she hadn't.
I have been with Troop members that have seen what ISIS does to the Christian civilians in their attacks....The Auction of Christian women who survive, like cattle, to enhance their breeding programs to populate their Troops, the acts of torture as entertainment...It is in my very jaded opinion, that at all costs , they should be put under the knife, and wiped from the earth.
In their doctrine of war there is no mercy, they don't operate under the rules of engagement...It is common knowledge that if the shoe was on the other foot....They would throw us all, young and old into a burning pit, and destroy every trace of our entire civilization, like we never mattered or existed.

and there is the true mistake, problem with the western civilized world, quit playing war, get back to waging it properly

if you're going to send people to do a job, don't tie one of their hands behind their back, let them get on with it and finish it

we're bending over, still inviting the enemy in, it's moronic

take no prisoners, slaughter, destroy and conquer properly or stay home and protect your borders

Europe's politically correctness, Obama's, Zoolander's, it's going to have ramifications for decades to come, costing trillions for nothing

Interesting interview indeed! Seem to be watching the same stuff lately, Erica. Seems your lovely body isn't the only thing I'd enjoy probing into once my health returns. ;-)
