Im standing on the sidewalk waiting for the lights to change to cross the street. This 80 yr old white lady in one of those senior mobile scooters runs into me. Then she goes off with the racist remarks,slanted eyes,and to go back to my country. Of course i had a few choice words for her but people crossing the street was in shock. What would u do or say?

Really a person that old will not give a shit what anyone has to say, they are from a time where narrow minded opinions of race were rife, only thing I would have come up with would be, " I would think somone of your age would know the values of respect and tolerance and I am sure your ancestors that migrated to Canada would be proud of you."

I have seen many people who are in the octogenarian category that have this, "I have lived longer than you and it gives me the right to treat people any way I care too." attitude and they feel it is thier personal right to act that way. Welcome to the world of the old and bitter, all we can do is make a mental note and live a life that does not cause us to end up with her attitude.

I have this amazing ability to sound polite sincere and condescending at the same time, people used to love hearing me handle escalations at my old job. Most times I had people appologising for the way they acted afterwards.

It is not unusual for people at that age to have dementia, so arguing with them is pointless. While people may have racists thoughts, they generally keep them to themselves, but when their mind is gone that civility check dissappears.
It reminds me of an incident many years ago on the bus where this clearly deranged elderly woman began harrassing a young philipino woman, and eventually started chasing her around on the bus until other passengers put themselves in the way to protect the young woman. This old woman was screaming racist stuff about immigrants, going back to your own country and shit like that, and for no reason at all, the girl was just sitting there minding her own business. The bus driver stopped and kicked the old bag off, but ya, she pretty clearly had some mental issues.
