It is 24 years ago that John Lennon was Slain... Murdered... In front of his Wife, Yoko Ono.

I was just "discovering" the Beatles... Never mind, John Lennon, solo!! I was just a mere kid... Lovin' & groovin' on Yellow Submarine... Over & over, while my Mom continued to groove on She Loves You...

I heard over the news that John Lennon was shot. It was my moment of loss of innocence. That man was cruel unto himself. How could someone KILL John Lennon? Who proclaimed PEACE? Love & Love Ins Naked?

I remembered I cried that day as I witnessed my first global experience. Wishing I could be in NYC to hold a candle in John's memory. Instead I lit one at my home, with my Mother.

Where were you?

Bigger than J.C.? Hmmmmmmmm... Other quotes attributed to John Lennon:

LIFE: "Life is what happens while you are busy making other plans."

PEACE: "Imagine all the people living in peace. You may say I'm a dreamer, but I'm not the only one. I hope someday you'll join us, & the world will be as one."

Everyone has their ultimate favorite John Lennon song... Mine is IMAGINE.

IMAGINE
(by John Lennon)

Imagine there's no heaven
It's easy if you try
No hell below us
Above us only sky
Living for today ...

Imagine there's no countries
It isn't hard to do
Nothing to kill or die for
And no religion too
Imagine all the people
Living life in peace ...

You may say I'm a dreamer
But I'm not the only one
I hope someday you'll join us
And the world will be as one

Imagine no possessions
I wonder if you can
No need for greed or hunger
A brotherhood of man
Imagine all the people
Sharing all the world ...

You may say I'm a dreamer
But I'm not the only one
I hope someday you'll join us
And the world will live as one

Thank you John Lennon for writing songs & brightening our world.

On top of the Green Monster
I was driving to Edmonton International Airport in the middle of a huge snowstorm. I was taking a trip to Los Angeles. I heard the news on the radio on the way to the airport. It's funny how you remember exactly where you were when certain events occur. It is really only those events that are so deeply shocking and unbeleivable. JFK is a classic, as is Elvis and more recently 9/11.

RE:John

I remember sitting in my friends basement, and he was playing his piano (he was very good), and we were sharing a joint.

He stopped playing for a moment so I wouldn't be hogging the whole thing to myself, and he turned on the radio.

A Day In the Life was just coming to an end. And when it was over, we heard the DJ say..."Wonderful memories of the late John Lennon...That of course was a Day In the Life ....etc,etc, etc..

Then we both sat there for a second or two in silence...and then we realized what the DJ meant...and we kept listening and not talking much.

We were stoned, and numb. My friend's name was Paul. about three years later Paul died at a young age in a car crash. He was alone in his car when it happened. We had spent an evening together just shooting the shit and having a joint or two together, and he would play the piano. He drove me home early that same night, because I had to work the next morning.

I miss John, and I miss Paul. Both brought me alot of happiness listening to them play.

Later,
bobsled.

24 years ago I did't know what the fukk a John Lennon or the beatles was for christ sakes. I think that was around the year my parents bought me my first ghetto for xmas, from the Woodwards wholesale place that is now the Safeway on KGH & 104.

Gotta wait till about 10 years later till I kinda started appreciating the Beatles.

I don't remember the Lennon death because I was too young to give a shit at the time...he was just part of a rash of rock star deaths I heard about on the news but wasn't familiar with the names until a year or two later. (that "rash of deaths" turned out to be Elvis Presley, Keith Moon, Sid Vicious, Bon Scott, John Bonham and John Lennon).

I do remember exactly where I was when the Challenger space shuttle blew up, and when 9/11 happened (working in an office tower, of all places).
