I'm planning on a 7 day excursion to San Francisco at the end of the month. Any tips on hotels? Activities? And places to find the best deal?

I wanted to fly WestJet, but they only offer seasonal flights.

It's Park 55 for me too and if the SO is along then it's the Westin ST Francis.
The AMP's around the 55 tended to be Viet and they weren't to happy with the amount I offered for their FS. They took it but I think it's around 1/2 of what they wanted.

If you want to see something different go to O Farrels / Mitchel Bros. It's a strip / brothel / peep show / movie theater experience all in one.

To get another look at things drop into the Market St. Cinema. I have had some great entertainment in there. Most of the time you get hustled but take plenty of 20's in with you and you'll have a good time.

San Francisco Bay Area
great little boutique hotel called " the winchester"
right on the trolly line , awesome little place , right in the middle of great shopping and resturants.

Which Trolley line? There are six lines, mostly underground in the downtown.

I suspect you meant to say cable car line. That would make a little more sense.

an idea

Hey Advocate,
Have you ever considered hotwire.com? When i went to SF a couple years ago, I paid $79 US a night for a downtown hotel that was great. I believe the bellmen wore BeefEater outfits. Anyway, you need to prepay and don't get cancellation, but if you know for sure you're going, it's helpful. If you have any questions about it, pm me and I'll answer as best I can
Bon Voyage,
wise

don't stay in the Tenderloin area. that area is rough, and the hotels are cheap but somewhat rundown....unless of course if you want to check out the sw at night strolling around. Make sure you are sober otherwise you maybe in for a surprise as many of them are TVs.

No, I am not a cheap hippie

Check out the California Hostels at http://www.hiusa.org/usa-hostels/ca/ca-state.shtml They have exceptional hostels.

You would probably need a car but the one I stayed at was 15 min.? south on the coast. I had a 6 bunk room all to myself 30' from the cliff top at a converted lighthouse site. If it had been a B&B it would have cost $300 a night. I paid $30.

There is another at the north end of the Golden Gate in the middle of a huge converted military site.

I usually either stay at the Westin St. Francis in Union Square or The Hyatt on the Embracadero waterfront.

i just got back from San Fran. I stayed on the business downtown side of the city. Less tourist on that side. As far as where to stay it depends on how much you want to spend. Me and my friends stayed at the Adante on geary street. It may look a little run down but it was nice for a cheap hotel. If you have money to spend then i would stay at the Fairmount. Really nice hotel.

As far as places to go there is peir 39 of course if you want to do the tourist thing. But if you are looking for some nice places that the locals ussally go then i suggest Japan town. Much nicer than china town and bigger. The food there is great. Then there is always golden gate park. I sugest renting a bike from blazing sadels and ride around the city. A bike ride across the golden gate bridge is nice. And be sure to check out the little pubs at night you might find some pretty cool bands playing free shows.

I usually stay in the Napa Valley and day trip SF. I have stayed at the Westin St Francis and loved the experience of being right on Union Square. When there last month I noted that there is a lot happening between Green and the Bay Bridge area.

For lunch check out Taylor's Instant Refresher and Town Hall for dinner.

BTW SF is the home of the Kimpton Hotel chain of boutique hotels.
