I need to update several suits and the last time I bought new suits I was recommended to a tailor where I was living in the US at the time and he was pretty reasonable. But I am not 100% sure I want to pay a premium anymore to have them tailor made. Does anyone know of a good source for suits (maybe online?? but I am skeptical because I hate a suit that doesn't fit properly)...or even a reasonably priced tailor?
Where do you buy your suits if you can't buy them off the rack?

How much are you willing to pay for each suit? There are a few Canadian companies that offer made to measure.
Fully Canvassed made to measure suits from Samuelsohn are available at Harry Rosen starting at $1250.
Half canvassed suits are available from Coppley and are available at Harry Rosen, probably under $1,000
Fused made to measure from S.Cohen are also available. You'll have to go to an independent clothier. Likely closer to two thirds the price of a Samuelsohn suit.

I 2nd Harry Rosen, they tailor to your needs great and have a good selection w/ a wide $$$$ range to choose from.
I have nothing but positive accolades for Raja Fashions (www.raja-fashions.com) Immpeccible tailoring, and awesome range of fabrics to choose from. I make a point of seeing them everytime they come to Calgary. 6 weeks later, suit porn arrives in the mail. Lovingly wrapped and packaged. Top notch all the way, and about 1/2 price compared to Harry Rosen of similar quality.
I will probably replace 5 suits and I don't want to really spend more than 4K. I may check out Harry Rosen...I just hate the whole damn process. I had my guy in the States and he knew all my measurements and it took all of 10 minutes. I get fed up and end up spending more than I need to just to get it over with.

You won't be able to get 5 made to measure suits at Harry Rosen for $4,000. Might want to try Dunn's Tailors at 480 Granville St. for S.Cohen made to measure. The suits will be fused instead of canvassed, but the average person won't be able to tell the difference.
Samuelsohn suits are higher quality than Brooks Brother's suits. Zegna and Armani suits are more money than Samuelsohn suits, but you probably won't be able to tell the difference, at least not $500 worth. Diminishing returns once you get over $1,000 a suit.

Though I cant speak from the experience of purchasing I would take Flanders advice as I am
well aware of his meticulous taste.I never wear a suit for work but considering what I do and how
I dress for what I do for a living I am DAMN well dressed for my job.
As for my .02 a well made suit that fits you perfectly is like a baked potatoe without the toppings...
...meaning that that nice suit is a waste if you dont have a wicked high quality hat to wear with it.
Prefferably a fine quality vintage felt fedora made by Knox or Stetson....easily found on Ebay...my best
score was a Royal Stetson made out of sable way back in the 1950's...it still has the original
sales tag inside the leather hatband...priced at $45 way back then and it is = to a $1000 Borsalino
from Italy today...though I highly doubt it would be made from sable.
If you are going to go for a well made suit a fine hat is a must have.

I think your money is better spent on good quality shoes than a hat. Not too many people wear hats these days. Everyone wears shoes. They say one of the first things women notice are shoes. Not sure if it that is really true. Shoes are overpriced in Canada. Better off picking them up in the U.S. if you can.
Agreed...not just anyone can 'pull off' the hat look! But a woman will almost always notice the shoes! It sounds like your suits are for work, so you might not want to do the hat look, as it can make a guy appear a bit pompous. If you must try the hat look, maybe save it for the weekends. Or look like this guy:
They'll notice the expensive shirt and ties and you'll be just as successful because those are the important parts of the outfit but you just keep believing what the advertisers tell you. Now granted this won't help the OP who doesn't fit well into off the rack suits but if you do don't waste your money
If you spend money on 1 part of the suit you can't cheap out on the rest, guys think you can't notice is because nothing is ever said "surely noticed" though..
Definitely try Moores Clothing for Men. They have everything from low end to high end suits/shirts/accessories, as well as sizing from short, tall, fat, thin. Their tailors also do a great job if the suit needs a little tweaking. Oh and their sales people are all very friendly, knowledgeable, and professional.

Seriously, Raja fashions man. 3 shirts, one suit, one blazer. $1,800.00 can. All fit perfect, from high quality materials. Custom tailoring without brand name tags = CLASS.

I was worried one of those was supposed to be the "good" suit (they all look like trash) then thankfully I saw the next post (hell I almost want one of those, just darker)
As long as the suit is not a poorly made $250 suit, the fit takes priority over the quality IMO. I have $700 suits that look much better than one Brioni I have that cost much more than I should have spent for a suit.
I remember going to Moores many years ago and the salesperson was friendly but he recommended suit separates :doh:.
I humored him and tried one on and he suggested that some modifications would have it looking perfect. I suspected otherwise and the tailor confirmed that their expertise ends with minor modifications.

I use Raja Fashions too. There was a problem the first time - the top buttonhole on the jacket was too low. I returned it and they made a new jacket, which was perfect, and all my orders since have been perfect.
I absolutely love the 15 shirts I have ordered so far. I have a large neck for my body size (18-1/2" collar, 46 "chest), and most off-the-rack shirts are too big in the body, regardless of quality and price). For an average total cost of less than 90 CAD each delivered to my home, I get bespoke shirts of beautiful, high quality cotton and workmanship that fit me perfectly. They would probably cost $250 or more here and wouldn't fit nearly as well.
On another note, I would love to have seen Spermie's take on this. Too bad he's no longer around.

As for Raja it sounds like a no brainer and the only option that I can think would be cheaper and of the same quality would be to get tailored clothing made when on a pooning trip to Thailand.
