What is this?
Most comprehensive personality tests treat sexuality as a side note. Then there are the fun quickie quizzes about sex — but those are mere flirtations. SexType.Me is the first research-based personality test, and it aspires to uncover your complete (and complex) sexual self.
By taking part in SexType.Me, you’re learning about your sexual self, and you’re also participating in an ambitious interactive investigation. As more people take the test, our researchers’ analyses grow in precision.
Why Are We Doing It?
We think it’s important to possess a deeper understanding of your sexual nature. The more you know about yourself, the more authentically you can lead your life. Similarly, your interactions with others will improve once you understand how you operate in the context of sex and relationships.
How does the analysis work?
In simple terms, your answers inform our researchers about behavioral trends and unique personality traits. We have identified six sexual personality dimensions that we will refine as we move forward and develop a final version of the test. Read our blog to learn more.

The Sex Types
Contemporary psychology recognizes five major personality dimensions: openness, conscientiousness, extraversion, agreeableness, and neuroticism. Each dimension is measured on a scale. For example:
Most people fall somewhere near the middle of the above spectrum. In the personalities of those who land closer to “solitary and reserved” or “outgoing and energetic,” those traits are obviously more pronounced.
Like traditional interpretations of personality, our analysis envisions sexual personality as a collection of separate dimensions. So far we’ve identified six: Sexual Extraversion, Relationship Preference, Satiation Preference, Pursuit Style, Romantic Style, and Social Style. These address everything from your manner of acquiring sexual partners (do you prefer to hunt or to be hunted?) to your taste or distaste for variety in the sack (or in more unusual places, as the case may be).
We’ve “named” the extremes in each dimension. Someone who’s extremely extraverted sexually is a Sex-Loving Party Animal. The Animal’s counterpart is the Reserved Traditionalist. After you take the test, your results will indicate “who” you are according to where you fall within these dimensions in comparison to everyone else who took the test.
Unlike other personality tests, our analysis does not read each dimension as a solitary plane. Instead we see each aspect as a piece in a larger personality puzzle. The dominant characteristics combine to provide an understanding of an individual’s whole sexual persona.
The pie charts below graph four individuals’ personalities. By assigning percentages to dominant characteristics, we’ve determined the individuals’ overall sexual characters:
In addition to mapping an individual’s results, we look at how the individual compares to the rest of the people who’ve taken the test.
In the graphs below, we chart four individuals in two different sets of sexual dimensions. The purple cloud at the graph’s center represents the population average.
Here you can see that Person C is about average in the first set of dimensions. In the second set, C falls more deeply into Emotional-Lover/Sexual-Philosopher territory than the average test-taker.
Person B is an extreme Fun-Seeking Monogamist and Sex-Loving Party Animal, while Person D is a less extreme Fun-Seeking Monogamist and is more on the Reserved Traditionalist side.
This method of mapping allows us to compare an individual’s positioning to the rest of the population’s and makes it easy to visualize different dimension-combinations, which are just as significant as the dimensions themselves. It allows us to compare individuals to their peers in all dimensions and dimension-combinations.
In short, the survey’s methods mirror our belief that sexual personalities are multi-faceted. There are numerous traits that characterize an individual’s sexuality, and each individual is unique.
