The difference between guts and balls

Guts - is arriving home late after a night out with the guys, being assaulted by your wife with a broom, and having the guts to ask:
"Are you still cleaning, or are you flying somewhere?"

Balls - is coming home late after a night out with the guys, smelling of perfume and beer, lipstick on your collar, slapping your wife on the ass and having the balls to say,
"You're next."

Guts is when you attempt to do something potentionally dangerous. Balls is what the food delivery guy did tonight at my friends house. He came to the door and after I paid him($96.53)He tells me that my friend who lives here still owes him money from the last time he delivered here.(his exact words"owes him money") So I ask how much and he says he's not sure because my friend didn't tip him last time and had said he'd catch him next time so he was owed a tip and wasn't going to leave until he got it. I couldn't believe it. Now that takes Balls

That's not Balls. That's NERVE. Balls is to then take back the tip you gave him for having the NERVE to IMPOSE somebody else's past tip on you and pay him the last 53 cents in pennies and nickels, preferably all pennies.

Now that I think about it, I agree with this assessment. Guts is a doing something that could lead to potential danger and/or injury. Balls is more akin to doing or saying something that other people would like to do, but lack the necessary ingredient to carry through with their desire. Namely, they lack the balls!

Personally, I have balls, but I probably lack guts.

i will add one more thought to this dichotomy.

Guts: doing something that may lead to physical/emotional harm that MOST men/women would not undertake.

Balls: having the Guts to attempt ANYTHING that requires Guts and SUCCEEDING or completing the undertaking in plain view of others.

example, it takes "guts" to ask the coach in a championship basketball game to be able to take the "win or lose" shot for your team in the dying seconds timeout.

lots of people have guts. all people can respect that kind of mental courage and toughness.

balls is what separates the winners from losers.

it takes "balls" to do that in front of your teamates and the crowd and make the shot with everyone watching and some expecting failure.

ie. Robert Horry in Game 5 in Detroit hitting a 3 point shot with 1 second left to win the game and essentially the championship as Detroit obviously won game 6.

There is a reason Robert Horry HAS 6 NBA champ rings with 3 different teams: that dude has balls and is clutch.

And has been lucky enough to play with Jordan's Bulls,
Shaq's/Kobie's Lakers, & Duncan's Spurs.

disagree Lenny, Horry was an intergral leader (not the star) of each of those teams. he was scoring huge points when the stars get doubled up and tripled team.

he was/is the ultimate "role" player. excellent defender for his size, very versatile.

he was not some dude "carried" by other better players.

i dont think you can put sports figures in the category of having balls or guts or courage. I quit watching major league sports a couple of years ago. But if you were to put horry on another team say the sonics he becomes another retread.

another example is gretzky, everyone says that it was gretzkys team in edmonton, and as great a player as he was he never would have won any stanlt cups without fuhr, messier, anderson and a whole host of role players. He proved that when he went to la.

I dont have a definitionfor guts and balls, but i know it when i see it. I also beleave you cant have one with out the other, my examples are a tunnel rat, a four man lrrp team, paratrooper,(especially on june 6, 1944) yes i give these people my undieing respect, it takes true guts and balls to do what they do.

ease up army boy, this thread was tongue in cheek or at least that was my initial interpretation of it. (going by the big grin Arizona put up at the outset)

horry is no future hall of famer, but he has the "mystique" of making his teamates play better. his numbers in 13 years are not very good as an individual player, but that is why Hubie Brown kept calling him "Mr. Intangible" last night in game 7 when he kept San An in the game when Duncan was sucking cock (early in the game).

i respect true military courage, comraderie, patriotism, and valor, but think there are also alot of soldiers with utter shit for brains as well. basically nimrods who need to be told what to do. but that is all a matter of political opinion.
