TRAVELLING SOLO
An old friend of mine introduced me to travelling by yourself...eg...alone
He travelled all over the world solo from the early 70's to the mid 90's before his time came...he went to every continent, including Antarctica...as well as Russia...when it was the USSR... before the Berlin wall came down...difficult to do at that time...he went all over the world alone and had fantastic experiences that he shared with me...sparking my own wanderlust...only now I know it is better as a solo traveller...THANKS BUD!
I met him in the mid 80's as a co-worker and friend and I was inspired to explore the world...his insight taught me that there are far more advantages to travelling alone as opposed to trips with friends and/or family.
Family or trips with friends are great...usually lots of fun...yet there are the restrictions of when everyone is available...where to go...what to do...where to stay...etc...etc...etc...
My preference now is to travel alone...go where...when...why...you want to.
I guarantee you will meet more people if you are travelling alone...maybe immerse yourself in a different culture like
Cambodia...or even in somewhere like Vegas!
Get your ass out of your room and into the streets...Nicaraugua, Costa Rica, and Panama I have never seen as many solo female travellers!!!! Mostly from Quebec, Spain, USA, and France...Single ladies on their own...you just have to be a nice Canadian! It isn't hard to do!
Also, I have found if you are by yourself, whether you are outgoing or not, people want to include/meet you...maybe they are worried about you or just can't understand why you are alone, but by far I meet more people and get invited to their homes, or out for dinner/lunch/breakfast/baseball game/baptism/fishing/wedding/house building/etc...
Do not be afraid to travel alone...use common sense for safety...be open to meet new people...my $0.02
