What are some of the best careers to enter right now or the next 10 yrs (at least money wise)? I am nearing the end of a bachelors degree in a subject I am interested in, but don't know if I want to spend my working life doing. Any suggestions for lucrative jobs/careers? And don't say "become an sp."

I have a few friends who have very little education and are OFA3 after taking a one month program for 900.00. They are working as a OFA3 first aid attendant on construction sites. Their pay is around 25/h and up ....it's awesome considering you dont need to study for 4 yrs. Also the guy tells me he just walks around the contruction site all day doing very little....he makes as much as a nurse who spend yrs studying. My sister is CGA and a controller for a company earning 120k a yr.

Career change

Health care, internet-related jobs (technical and creative) and computer engineer would be my choices for a university educated guy.

I love what I do. I mean really, really love it.

When I changed careers about 10+ years ago (I was in sales then), I sat down and considered what I would do if I was well-off enough not to have to shlumph to work every day. Then I found a job, industry and career that paid me to do it.

This doesn't work for everyone, but think about what you like to do, and see if it matches something lucrative. If it does, you not only make money, but don't have to worry about burning out in 10 years. Believe me: I was making a killing in sales (computer networks), but couldn't stand the yada-yada, "Heyhowarya, isthisthemissus?" anymore.

Cheers. $0.02.

political science

Become a teacher if you like kids... Teachers make over 50k on average and if you have a masters, you will get about 70k. What other job gives you 3 months off a year and no one breathing down your neck, day-in and day-out.?

I don't recommend being an accountant. Most CGA, CA, CMA's I met are stressed, depressed, work long hours. It's a shit life...One guy I worked with couldn't get out of bed for over a month, since he hit a wall with severe depression after staring a spreadsheets all day year after year. He was earning about 80k base...plus stock options.

If you like helping others and find the human body interesting...Health Care.

There are a lot of choices out there but with you being a political science major and all, sadly, the choices are some low life government paper pushing job and that's only if your are bilingual:D ;) .

I get the feeling like I should basically try and finish my degree as fast as possible and then go waste the remainder of my life doing some sort of dangerous trade. Is this insane? I pretty much hate the monotony of my life right now and just want out of it. I don't really care how anymore.

Do what you like to do. If you like it, and have the desire to be the best you can, you'll be fine. Doing something you don't like, even if it pays well, is very hard work.

Several years ago, a friends daughter was getting ready to go to university and she talked to about 15 people she knew who were in fields that interested her, I was one. The most interesting thing she learned was that NONE of the 15 recommended their field as a career choice: architect, lawyer, accountant, ...

Think with your heart...your heart will lead you to whatever you may find in the future.

Best of luck. I was in your shoes before too...

With your political science degree, have you thought about working for CSIS as an intelligence officer? Sounds like a pretty cool job to me.

Here's a 'secret' ... do what you love and the pay won't matter ... and
more than likely, if you really love what you do you will do it well
enough for it to be lucrative for you ...

worst thing i have ever seen are friends going to work for the money
which they spend and then going back to work for more money which
they spend and they are never happy ...

you should be asking what will make you happy and do you want to
do it for ten years?

because anything else and you might as well be in jail ...

Anything but IT

I have been in IT for what seems a hundred year. If you like to work 20 hours a day, have people gripe at you all the time and have people come up to you at social gatherings and say "my computer is broken can you fix it", IT is the job for you.

Serious though, IT is very demanding but you can make a crap load of money.:p
