My latop is on its last legs, needing a new one. My question is, would you buy a ipad or a new laptop? I dont use it for much other than surfing the net and checking e-mails

Have you tried typing on an ipad or similar tablet yet? If you have, and if you don't mind that too much, then I would say go for a tablet. Smaller form factor to deal with and easier to lug around the house / car etc.

I used both but if it a had to be one I would get a MacBook Pro but wait a bit since new stuff is coming soon.
BTW using a iPad with either BT or cradle type keyboard is a simple low cost way to type etc.

I agree with melni. If all you do is surf the net and use it for e-mail, then a tablet is the way to go. You can put a sim card in it to access your cellphone network, if you don't want to rely on wi-fi hotspots for net access and have a data plan. A tablet will also serve as an entertainment platform with music and videos. As for iPad or Android, well that is simply your personal preference.

Do you need to do any production, even occasionally? Printing airline tickets, writing letters, filling out tax forms, anything? If you do, get a Macbook Pro instead of a pad (unless you have a desktop for production).
