What will you do this Remembrance Day.

What will you do... I'll likely be at work, take a few minutes to remember and carry on my boring, pedantic life. I might raise a toast, place my hand over my heart, lower my head and say a prayer. Then again I might just be grateful for the stat holiday and time and a half. I'm at an age where my role models when I was young are fading into the mists of history. I remember watching with youthful awe at the medals on their chests, their uniforms swaying in the breeze at the cenotaph as the wreaths were laid. They inspired in me to be a noble son of great nation. I served with pride as my father before me, as his father before him and as my siblings still do. I have never felt the tearing of flesh in hostility yet I have seen the gratitude of others for peace. So I want to take this opportunity, before any obstacle prevents me, to to say thank you to all our veterans. Thank you for being noble, for inspiring me to be a better man, to answer a call to stand up for what I believe in. Thank you for granting me the freedom to be free. I hope that my sons will look at you and be inspired as I was, that they ask you about you, who you are, why you took up the cause and sacrificed all for them. So whether serving actively or past I want to say we are blessed for the sacrifices you made on our behalf. You will never be forgotten

Head to one of the local parades and pay my respects. It's a must do every year.
It's not just a day off.

All gave some. Some gave all.

I will remember. I will meditate on "In Flanders Fields", and I will listen to a good MP3 of "The Last Post" and I will observe 2 minutes of silence at 11:11 am, as I did every Remembrance Day of my entire former career. I will post on Google+ about the importance of continuing to teach young Canadians why we observe it, as opposed to 'celebrating it'. Lastly, I will remember a hell of a man who spent 27 years in a branch of the Air Force whose motto is "That Others May Live".

I'll go to the Cenotaph and watch my wife take part in the ceremonies. She'll parade with her unit and I'll watch and remember............there'll be the usual ragtag group from "my" war....I don't know any of them, and don 't want to when it comes right down to it. After it's over I'll join her at her mess and have drink or two.......maybe listen to a story or two from a new generation and a new war. We'll exchange a few tall tales about how "our" war was so much harder.........at the end though the question is the same, was it worth it ? I'm the sole survivor of my platoon, the last to die did so at his own hand.......how I'll go, I don't know.........I don't like Remembrance Day all that much. I appreciate what it stands for and what it means to so many people, but it doesn't mean I have to like it.........guess I'm getting old.

As I do each year, pay respects to all who have served for all of us. I will call two friends who lost their sons in Afghanistan at the young age of 21. I expect one or all three of us will lose it at some point.

I used to go to the cenotaph rain or shine but got sick of all idiots who attend so they can say they attended to make it look like they care. The last time I went peoples phones were ringing and they answered them during the moment of silence. SO disrespectful. The other display of idiocy came in the form of people bringing their dogs. Ya, real smart, bringing your dogs to a place that demands silence while people play musical instruments sure to set them off. Its sad too because it is such a sacred day and people don't TRULY understand what it is all about.

To answer the question, I am planning to possibly see an SP. I feel apart from the sacred side of it, it should be a day to exercise and celebrate the freedoms people fought and died to protect.

Wishing that we as a species can grow out of this stupid killing each other phase and not have to ask people to put their lives at risk like this anymore.

This might be the first year I don't join my family at the cenotaph, which makes me quite upset. I'm highly considering going back to the mainland for just one night so that I can join my family and support my Grandad in his march; one of the only surviving members in the city we Rememer in. Every year as he lays his wreath for the Royal Canadian Air Force, I'm reminded how thankful I am for his (and all others') service, and I appreciate that he is still here and surprisingly healthy for a man of his age who has been through what he has.

Lest we forget.

My sister and I are going to visit our Grandmother. She is 95. Time on this planet for her is limited and she is a part of our heritage. Almost 100 years of memories, I can only imagine what she thinks. Fortunately her mind is still sharp, but her body is losing the battle of life. Thank you to all our soldiers and their wives who supported out country then and now!

This rememberance day . will be the one that will all way be the day before my mothers funeral..
She will be buried on Nov 12..

As for any previous was just remembering that i had two grand fathers in the WW1.. one died... and my dad and uncles were in the WW2..

And each day not just 11/11... Is day to relect on the horrors of all wars...Ask why it happens...
and still have to say that unless everyones attitudes change to wards each other.. and stop hating or being afraid of others... then War will still happen .. we will have wars to end all wars
... The ierny of love and peace
