I agree if the banks put in a machine that you could pour your pennies into without rolling them and get a cheque people would be glad to bring in pennies even at 90 cents on the dollar and they'd never need to mint another penny again.

There's too much risk in virtual money, with lots of opportunity (1) for folks to "make mistakes" that cost you big... just imagine the time lost trying to fix the "mistake" and the loss of use of virtual cash while things are being worked out... (2) for virtual theft, (3) for loss of privacy, (4) etc. etc. The virtual world is pretty convenient and a great source of data-mining for the institutions that promote its use, but f**k! Exactly in whom are you putting your trust? and also your expectation of reliability? .... think about it, it's already pretty scary as it is now!
