Kamloops B.C.
We are a humble and proud Nation....We bury our honour, and pride deep within ourselves.
In the Middle East we supported American Campaigns by shadowing the troops on top of the mountains, the most dangerous position....Watching their backs, and risking the skyline.
We let them take the glory of battle....In private, they called us the Canadian Angels, because they knew they would have never made it to the battlefield, without their shadows from above.
I was there, and was suprised at the respect we received from them.
We stand our ground no matter what the consequence...And back it up with a polite, but steadfast resolve that is respected throughout the world....Don't piss off a Canuck, because you'll be picking your own teeth up.
We are a people connected to nature..We are living in cities or towns, and yet we can watch Killer Whales from the Seawall..We believe in Mother Nature, and her sacred circle of life, and there are some who choose to live within her domain.
It doesn't matter if you live in a concrete highrise, or a log cabin in the woods....As a people, we don't try to conquer Mother Nature, we embrace her.
I think perhaps we don't know what it is we are proud of, some feel it is pointless when comparing ourselves to the nation placed South of us. Others feel we could take a lesson from them....But if you look at whats happened there over the past few years...They have tried to control gun owners, with new firearm regulations..New social based health care that looks after everyone, and doesn't turn your health into a business transaction..Raising taxes so food and services can be supported by getting rid of subsidies....All very Canadian ideas.
Maybe what we should consider being proud of the fact that, although we struggle with who we think we are. Maybe we are starting to figure that out, and the entire world is watching our progress....When Canada enters the world stage...We seem uncomfortable, but no matter what the venue, either sports, entertainment, war, or political agendas..Other Nations look up ,and follow our lead.

Look left. Way left.
I would be proud if we used our resources for the good of our people.
If we made a serious attempt to alleviate poverty. If we tested our poor and I'll and elderly with respect. The list goes on.

Hockey! Get real! Why not build Colosseum's to amuse the masses while society crumbles?

Sorry that you don't have an understanding what the 1972 Summit series meant for this country. During the Cold war between the Soviet Union and the best Canadian professional hockey players. It was West versus East. Many people equated it to war on ice. Ya I could see how you can see that there is no correlation at all between sport and military operations.
Lol. West vs East. War on ice. We beat them at hockey. Jingoism through athleticism. One of the prouder moments in Canadian sporting history was Bobby Clarke giving Kharlamov a two hander, from behind, across the ankle and breaking it, and then admitting after that he did it because Canada couldn't win if Kharlamov was in the Soviet lineup. Something to be proud of. Oh Canada. Our hockey sporting heroes may be thugs with a grade 10 education but Gawd they make me proud!!!!

not sure if claustrophobia is the right term here.
I've always thought that Canada has a fair policy in terms
of letting immigrants in. I just don't agree with the job placement policy.

ie: educated immigrants working in menial jobs.
you see them at convenient stores, driving taxis or sweeping floors.
engineers, doctors, teachers, etc.
am I to believe that Canada is far superior in those fields?
No, Canadian standards are not far superior to international educational standards. The fact that educated immigrants end up in menial jobs is purely protectionist policies of organizations like the College of Physicians, Association of Engineers etc. They expect immigrants to re-certify by re-taking exams etc. Exams that are only offered in English. Many immigrants are setup to fail under these exams because their English skills are OK, but not good enough to pass the exams where questions may be worded awkwardly. That's too bad because these people can serve other immigrants in their native languages more effectively than Canadian doctors, nurses etc.
