Please do not discuss provider pricing here, this is not the thread for it.

As for overpriced obviously housing and gas/fuel/car juice has always felt over priced. For me bottled water at a movie theater has always been absurd. I've seen it as high as $8 for a a half liter or 16.9 ounce, WTF! A can of coke at a fancy hotel in Europe can cost $10. Also anything "organic" is way overpriced at the market.

My lady friend says sex toys are always marked up way too high, $55 for a standard dildo,. She can get at least cucumber a week for a year at that price. Then wash and eat it.

As for under priced I think dental floss. As much as it's recommended to floss daily you'd think it would be higher priced.

Any restaurant dishes that have lots of carbs like pasta or rice. If I wanted to fill myself up on carbs I'd cook my own rice/pasta for a fraction of the price.

That's why when I go to an all you can eat establishment I avoid carbs and just eat the proteins and veggies, so I can at least get my moneys worth.

Exact same thing can be said for anything at an airport. As soon as you go through security they got you. Everything past security is much more expensive. Much better off just not spending any money and just drinking at the water fountain while waiting for your flight...

Totally agree on the airport drinks. I used to carry 500 ml bottled water from home, empty it before security, then fill it up at water fountain. Good when I want water before they distribute it (or after). I have to remember to do that when I start travelling again.

The most expensive scam service is “Home Inspection”.
First time I bought a house the banker hounded me into using someone he knew. Inspector would not allow me to attend the inspection. He missed a ton of stuff that would have made me avoid buying the house.
Or did he intentionally not inform me?

All these guys are scammers.
Get a real contractor to go through the house with you, at least they know what they are doing.

Cars, fuel, drinks, weddings, concerts, books, and parts for vehicles.
I was a mechanic aka automobile technician, most of my working life, and parts prices are outrageous.
I still do odd jobs for some people, and there is no reason for basic parts cost to be so incredibly expensive.

Had a lady recently bring me suv and the parts she wanted installed with it. Seeing parts that should be $4 on the bill she paid $50 for is BS.

I disagree with the Home inspection scam. You got pressured by the banker and his scammer friend. I used someone recommended by my brother in law and they were good.

The extra "911 fee" on anyone's phone bill. Why not just fold that into the price, since telecoms are all required by government to provide functionality that service? And that is just one more example of...

Surcharges. All surcharges are absolute bullshit, so they can raise the price of something without appearing to raise the price.

"Fuel surcharge" on air fare. As if buying fuel for the airplane is somehow optional. It costs what it fucking costs. Raise the advertised price and otherwise STFU.

Same goes for "administrative fees" for buying a car. "Paint fees" for the standard (non-special) paint colours. As if the car can be bought without any of that, ever? Bollocks. Raise your advertised price, fuckers. "But the car company tells us we have to blah blah blah". Nonsense. Then someone in government should bring the sledgehammer on the parent companies until they learn to stop lying. (Instead they bail them out with no conditions, using "oh those poor endangered companies" as an excuse.)

So do they overcharge people? Whenever possible. Under-charge? Well, their advertised price is certainly lower than reality, and they all feel under pressure by competition to act that way.

Nobody in government seems to prosecute fraud anymore. Consumer protection measures are pathetic. Scams are baked right into the business model of so many businesses these days. Everyone cheats everyone else.
