I am interested in adding some cardio and ab routines into my workout, and was hoping for some Advice (fitness plan).I go to the gym for 1.5 hours everyday and eat vegan.

If you have any suggestions I would greatly appreciate it.

Tabata Intervals

Tabata Intervals consist of 20 seconds of maximum intensity exercise, followed by 10 seconds of rest. This cycle is repeated 8 times (for a total of 4-minutes). Although Dr. Tabata used a mechanically braked cycle ergometer, you can apply this protocol to almost any exercise. A few popular examples include hitting a heavy bag, sprinting, jumping rope, or performing bodyweight calisthenics (ex. squats and pushups).
They will kick your butt.

running

Wow, 1.5 hrs a day is a huge commitment! Bravo. Now it's time to take it outside of the gym & run for the ultimate cardio workout..not to mention the glutes & hams!

Get a proper pair of running shoes (rackets & runners on oak are great) & get on a simple running program thru your gym, online or a running clinic. Very important to start slow & give yourself rest days. Once you get strong you can incorporate sprint training (alternate running hard with normal running, repeat til exhausted, fun!). And if you don't have an mp3 player, get one, you'll run harder with your favourite pumping tunes.

Most important exercises beyond that are crunches, pushups & pullups (check out navy seals workouts, this is how they train). To keep things interesting for your head & body, add a couple gym classes (ball workouts, yoga, pole dancing, swimming etc) & some outdoor stuff (trail hikes, cycling, beach volleyball, etc) & you'll be ready for the regular olympics, not just the sexy kind!

Running recovery tip: If your hams are sore after a run, ice em or do what i do, hop up on your stone countertop, sit & chill like pastry. :)

A little exercise here and there may help. ;) Since I do not have time to work out, I do small movements here and there. For example, when I brush my teeth, I either do squats or trunk twists. When I'm in the shower, I also do squats while shampooing my hair and heel raises while soaping and rinsing.

If you are watching TV, why not do crunches or push ups during commercials?

Also, have fun. I don't know if you have a gym membership, but I recommend joining an aerobic class of your choice (Step, Kickboxing, Hiphop, Stripper/Pole dancing , Yoga, Pilates, etc). The advantage of joining a class is that you are forced to finish the workout for an hour from beginning to end and you are doing with a group of people, so you can add a little competition during the workout. :) Bottom line is have fun! :D

It's not kickboxing unless you're getting punched in the face.

If you want weak abs , do cardio. If yo u want a strong core, buy a ab wheel, learn how to do standing ab wheels. In a year your core will be rock solid. Do planks, side planks and good mornings. Add some L pull ups and play around with a medicine ball and a swiss ball . DO all this for a good year or 2 and your have a amazing core ( abs  )

Your name says it all..... Sex is the best workout I have ever experienced. OK, so it only isolates one muscle, but the cardio--whew! Bring it on!

My favourite physical activity, besides the horizontal mambo, is cycling. I think it makes me feel so free plus it works out nearly every part of your body. However, I always say to try to play at least one sport and to be competitive in it. It tends to make one goal driven and the desire for personal betterment will encourage you to play and therefore letting you to participate in a workout your enthusiastic about.

As we each have a different genetic inheritance and our living environments vary it's important to find what works specifically for you and your body / environment. My oldest daughter is an actress and model. Lives in Hollywood. She has been a vegan and vegetarian for years but recently had to start adding meat into her diet for health reasons. Her adrenals were unbalanced due in some way to her vegan / vegetarian diet choice (she is a student of vendanta). Her new diet includes a little meat and chromium picolinate, a combination which has helped rebalance her metabolism and drop what little body fat she was showing. I must say most vegans seem to look good if they eat a balanced diet. Myself I eat a so-called paleo diet and find that works best for me. My point is simply that each person must apply sound nutriton and exercise principles to their own unique situation. My oldest is in great shape and has learned just how to balance exercise and lifestyle with career, etc. It's important too to eat and supplement in such a way as to counteract the pollution and environmental toxins that abound in our cities (and some in the country). These things can mess with your metabolism and contribute in some cases to things like being overweight and having low energy.

Some of the guys posting here are obviously polished athletes and their knowledge of exercise is, Im sure, solid. It may not be the best for those of us who are not suited to those long hours of physical training. When it comes to nutrition and exercise I'd suggest 2 books by Dr. Michael Colgan:

1. The new power program (a great exercise program that balances strength, flexability and power), and
2. Nutrition for champions (the best single volume on nutrition IMHO).

I'm sure there are lots of other books, videos as well. I Like Colgan because he knows his stuff and has worked with many world class athletes as well as ordinary people.

Another thing I've discovered lately is the value of IV vitamin therapy. I use it for health reasons but many of the beautiful people interested in reversing aging and staying strong and healthy use this therapy regularly. Not cheap I'm afraid - but it's one of the secrets of those great looking hollywood types who don't go under the scalpel on a regular basis.

Running is great exercise in my experience. Before I came out of remission I used to run 3 to 6 times a week. Ran a marathon in 2003. Really keeps the metabolism revved up and keeps you lean. Has to be balanced with flexibilty and strength training though or your bones and joints might suffer. Especially true for those petite ladies who are at risk for osteoporosis. I'm sure none of what I write here is news to anyone. It's my two cents worth and I have found this approach to be life saving and life affirming.

I want you to burn this phrase into your memory dude, "Abs are made in the kitchen"

Sure, you're young and can live on Mcpukes while still having the abs of a bulimic heroin addict now. But that will change with time...unless you're Iggy Pop. :D
