The guy sitting in the big chair in the government has been quoted as saying “You can’t use a gun for self-protection in Canada. It’s not a right that you have,”

So your not allowed to carry anything for protection and now your not going to be allowed to protect your home/family with a gun.

Thoughts on this and the new bill proposal?

"Advocates both for and against the federal government's latest firearms bill are sharing mixed reactions to the proposed law, which if passed would further restrict legal access to handguns in Canada and create systems to flag individuals who may pose a risk to themselves or others."
...............................................................
"Since its introduction, Bill C-21 has received praise from gun control advocates, who see it as a positive step forward in combatting gun violence, while firearm rights groups argue the bill unfairly targets lawful gun owners and will do little to address crime."

WHAT WOULD BILL C-21 DO?

A key measure in Bill C-21 is a "freeze" on the sale, purchase or transfer of handguns in Canada, except for a limited set of individuals and businesses, without completely banning their use

Well considering that most gun violence is committed with illegally obtained firearms, this won't work. The bad people will still get their hands on them one way or another, if they don't care about catching a murder charge they won't care about the illegal firearm charge that goes along with it. There's a long list of illegal to possess things that people get their hands on every day. And I find it amusing that the PM says you don't have the right to protect yourself with a gun yet he's protected by them every day. And it's not as easy as some people think it is to own a firearm, I know there's the PAL course (maybe one other) to own a firearm of any kind and a restricted firearm course on top of PAL to own a handgun. Is FAC still a thing to buy ammunition?

I believe we are a country of compromised of free thinking free living people, not a bunch of subjugated serfs and as of late im seeing the people being treated as the latter.

Angry political rant over, you can agree or disagree with me on this but I'll respect you either way.

You do need your firearms license to purchase ammunition…i for one have no problem with the current laws when it comes to possessing a handgun, of which I have many.
I also technically break the law daily ,by carrying them on my person or in a saddlebag, as they have saved my ass numerous times.
I view them as a necessary tool of my occupation, and a long saddle gun gets left next to the saddle, on a runaway horse fleeing from a bear, and leaving me afoot and almost defenceless.
The laws Canada has should be enforced as they now stand, instead of added to simply to conjure votes for office.

Ooooops. Sybian, do you really mean what you said about enforcing the laws? By your own admission, you frequently break the laws, even if it is for practical reasons. I am sure LE is hard to find in your neck of the woods, so you probably do not worry too much about being caught.

Yep Sybian is right and out in the country or woods common sense must prevail. Stopping power over laws is sometimes the only option .

Govt always goes for the Low hanging fruit over and over again, let’s go after the law abiding gun owners, they have all their info in the registry. Going after the criminals is too hard for them and locking those fuckers up seems even harder as they are back out in no time. Pretending to do something I suppose looks like they are doing something but they are accomplishing nothing, what a ship of fools.

Never really been a rule follower, if I get caught, there are consequences, and I know that.

I was raised on rifles. Taught that they were simply a tool, nothing more. I only ever owned 4 rifles a .22 for grouse,a .44 Marlin for island deer ,a 12 ga for duck and a .338 win mag for moose. Never had any interest in hand guns or or assault rifles, never needed them. I used them to put meat in the freezer and they were useful when my knees were in better shape, not so much now. I am grateful that I don't live down on the gun crazy US though
