For the first time in over 12,000 years, the howl of a dire wolf has returned.

This achievement in synthetic biology was made by Colossal Biosciences that announced the birth of pups (named Romulus, Remus, and Khaleesi) genetically engineered to express key traits of the extinct dire wolf (scientific name: Canis Dirus/Aenocyon Dirus).

Using ancient DNA recovered from fossils up to 72,000 years old, researchers identified crucial genetic differences between dire wolves and modern gray wolves. By editing gray wolf embryos with these genetic traits, scientists produced animals that exhibit phenotypic characteristics of dire wolves.

Born in October 2024 at a secure U.S. facility, these pups represent the first successful de-extinction event of a long-lost Ice Age predator, signaling a new era in genetic engineering and conservation biology.

Dire wolves not even related to wolves. Didn't extract full DNA, just sampled and filled in some 20 sites. Basically created something, but definitely didn't create a Dire Wolf.

I would assume a grey wolf birthed the cubs. Really need to see how the mother takes to the cubs.

I say bring back Saber Tooth Tigers.

Like you said, what could possibly go wrong ?

Today marks the day where the ministry of environment release the newly de-extint sabertooth tiger, to the historic non glacial historic lands they roamed on Brooks Peninsula and Hiadi Gwaii. This move will re invigorate the lands as deer there have no natural predator besides man. Save for Cougars on the Island.

Top scientists from InGen stated they spared no expense. And claims that they were too busy thinking that they could, they didn't stop to think they should are completely unfounded..someone mentioned it once...maybe...
