Alerts for: Metro Vancouver

Statements
10:55 AM PDT Thursday 04 June 2015
Special weather statement in effect for:

Metro Vancouver
Prolonged period of hot weather for coastal British Columbia.

A prolonged period of hot weather will start tomorrow and continue through early next week. For the next few days, onshore sea-breezes will cap temperatures in the mid-twenties near the ocean. Slightly inland, temperatures will hover near 30 degrees. Saturday and Sunday will be the hottest days of this spell, possibly hot enough to break a few records and trigger a heat warning for the Lower Mainland. Such a warning would be issued tomorrow.

Hot, dry weather can lead to higher fire risk. Please see the B.C. wildfire management branch website at bcwildfire.Ca for more details and fire safety tips.

Watch for symptoms of heat illness, which include - dizziness or fainting, nausea or vomiting - headache - rapid breathing and heartbeat - extreme thirst - decrease urination with unusually dark yellow urine.

If you experience any of these symptoms during extreme heat, immediately move to a cool place and drink liquids. Water is best.

Please monitor the latest forecasts and warnings from Environment Canada at www.weather.gc.ca.

Check your closet..:)
If you can't stand the heat...get out of the kitchen.
So I wont be in my kitchen.
I am sure escapefromstress's place has AC.
So 1 hour of freshness sounds good to me. :)
So her place will be called escacaprfromtheheat....:)

It still amazes me that the temperatures forecast for the weekend are enough to trigger heat warnings and are considered heat waves.
Where I lived previously, those temperatures were normal. I say great! Might be warm enough to wear shorts this weekend.
I have memories of working beside an open window trying to catch ANY breeze wafting in 'cause it was 38 degrees outside and the only room we had A/C was the bedroom.
And when it dropped to 20 degrees, that was time to put on your winter jackets 'cause it was a real cold snap.

I only have a portable A/C, so usually can't work after noon on days when it's 28+. After that, I use a fan to circulate the hot air and resign myself to sweating it out.

I eat Del Monte frozen fruit bars to cool off.

The weathernetwork says it will only reach 25 this weekend, though feel as high as 29.

This might be a good time to fast for health & to lose a few unwanted pounds, which
would also work towards staying cooler.

Even when the temp got to 35C a few summers ago I had a pretty good routine set up for my office time.

During the AM if it was too hot and the neighbours rug rats weren't to noisy, I would simply open the doors and windows. Once the afternoon heat kicked in, I would place two high powered fans by the basement door which would blow the cold air up towards my office and had a nice circulating quiet fan blowing throughout. It was quite pleasant actually.

If all failed which it eventually did, I went mobile and took an iPad and iPhone to a local quiet beach, sat in the shade and let the breezes cool me off.

Eating popsicles, naked, in the backyard shade, then laying in the sun til I need to cool off.

Then, running inside to get a popsicle...
Nice, you have a backyard in downtown Vancouver? Impressive, I too have a palacious back yard on the 32nd floor.
