This original 6 matchup is what the NHL needs! Can't remember when's the last time in the conference finals, sure beats watching Det vs Van ;) And besides, we'd get spanked pretty badly against a veteran team that's got more speed than the slowness of our D.

I'd rather not see us humiliated in Round 3; Anaheims' a pretty physical opponent, so the Red Wiings just needed to toy with them a bit ;)

Hopefully, it'll be wide open, end rushes galore, since the goaltending won't be an issue; after all, Osgood's a multi-Cup winner, he can't be that bad ;) Even Cloutier or Irbe would've been good for one, lol

I think that the Washington vs. Pittsburgh series is what the NHL needed in order to promote the game in a dying market-the young guns to showcase the game. I bet Bettman was salivating at the thought.

your mom says hi.
whats funny is that when the canucks were winning you really had fuck all to say.

for someone who claims to be a fan you sure seem to be taking a lot of joy in their playoff exit. (doesn't sound like a fan to me)

considering at the start of the season no one including myself expected anything from the canucks, i think the season was a success. also i don't buy this "chicago was the superior team" shit. chicago was more then beatable by the canucks if not for a few unlucky bounces and mental lapses on defense and not to mention some phantom calls like when bieksa was called for hooking on bumfluff when he fell into lou and all the no calls in game six.

that is not to take away from chicago cause they are a good team. lots of young talent and a never say die attitude but in my opinion the canucks were right there with them and it could have just as easily been their series.

so if you're excited about the match up between two original six rivals, thats great and you are right about it probably being a great series to watch. but maybe show some class and hype the game without putting down our home team that in the past you claimed to be a fan of (some fan). your little "i told you so" barbs are becoming quite tiresome and starting to really annoy the living shit out of me.

nothing positive to say when they were winning but all the negativity in the world to dish out once they lost. thats almost worse then the bandwagon fans that you say you hate so much.

The Hawks and Wings have a storied rivalry. The both entred the league in the same year and, perhaps because of their regional proximity, seem to be intertwined. The last time the Blackhawks played in a conference final was in 1995 against... THE RED WINGS, where the Wings won in 5 games. The Hawks last Stanley Cup was in 1961, a six game series win for the Blackhawks. Chicago also won their first Stanley Cup in 1934 over the Red Wings, winning 3-1 in a best of five series. This chapter could be an interesting one, with lots of skill and speed to spare between these two teams. The Hawks will press but their unidisciplined play and the Wings postseason experience will result in a six game series win for Detroit.

The Pens and Canes, not so much of a storied rivalry. In fact, I don't believe the franchises have ever met in the post season. However, the Whalers/Hurricane franchise did aide the Penguins in their two Stanley Cup wins when they traded Ron Francis, Ulf Samuelsson and Grant Jennings to Pittsburgh for John Cullen, Zarley Zalapski and Jeff Parker in the spring of 1991. The Staal borthers are an interesting storyline but the battle that will determine the series is Fleury vs Ward. Both these teams can score, but which goaltender will step up big? I think it will be Ward and the Canes win in six as well.

i think the red wings already had their hardest test. i'm not one to care about what happened 60 years ago cuz those athletes aren't playing in this series. if you wanna recap the recent past the red wings have beaten all three remaining opponents the last time(s) they faced off. for the record i think it will be redwings vs pittsburg again, hopefully with the same outcome.

I'm really rooting for a rematch of Wings vs Pens. The Pens got spanked last year in the finals and I always root for the underdog in sports.

Besides who really wants to see a Carolina - Chicago series? No storyline in that.

I was really pulling for the Ducks in the playoffs. They play hockey old style, in your face and everywhere else. Too damm bad in Game 7 Getlazf was being lazy and didnt clear out Cleary who scored the game and series winning goal.

How scary is Detroit?

AMAZING talent PLUS amazing team cohesion! How is Chicago staying in this game? The Wings are all over them!

End to end hockey, but with shots on each rush, not just turnovers. Very exciting game. You notice how after Osgood makes a save, Detroit makes sure that none of the Hawks are allowed anywhere near him? Great defense.

Personally I am hoping for a Pitts / Hawks final.
I think we would have speed vs speed, youth vs youth, suspect goaltending on both sides...it would be wide open 6-5 type hockey.

Why do people make a big deal about seeing original 6 teams?
It's not like you're seeing Jean Beliveau or Gerry Cheevers in their prime.
You're not even seeing the original stadiums any more.

Hawks beat the Canucks by sheer youthful energy and a no quit attitude.
They didn't have the pressure. They made the playoffs and everything else is gravy.
You could see that the Canucks got rattled once the Hawks started coming back on them every game.
Example, clearing attempt by Willie Mitchell. 99 times out of 100, it would be out of the zone and out of danger.

Luongo also got knocked off his game by the antics of Byfulien and Burrish.
He should have been concentrating more on making the saves than worrying about the shenanigans in front of him.
Some would argue the refs should have called a lot more, but that's the playoffs for ya.
The Canucks beat themselves mentally. Hopefully this experience will make them stronger in the future.

Hawks have a snowball's chance in hell of getting past Detroit.
Those veterans will not be rattled. Detroit in 5.
And then I want to see them face off against the Pens for all the marbles!

Man, I'm getting good at this. Should put some $ on Sports Action.

Pens in 6. Crosby MVP!

Music to my ears ;)

Well said. Maybe Wilde and Trackie can learn from this.
