Nice to see Nonis sign a good stay at home defencemen who is responsible and a good skater. Hard hitting BC boy who will provide a lot of stabililty in front of Luongo. Will look good paired with either Ohlund or Salo.

I read that Nolan Baumgartner signed elsewhere. Anyone know where and how much?

Oooo you beat me to it. I was just about the post the same thing!

This should be interesting though, Willie Mitchell? We ran into him a couple years ago in the playoffs. Mitchell and The Minnesota Wild were considered an arch-rival, even if it were just during the playoffs. It will sure be interesting to see him in a Canucks uniform. Welcome Mitch! The solid +19 rating certainly is better than the -8 Jovonovski has.

Nolan Baumgartner is a Flyer now. Our new guy Krakerjak or whatever is a similar player, younger with more potential...

Why the hell not ? Why else keep track of those stats ??

Of course one also has to take into account his linemates, but it's a pretty telling statistic overall.

This guy is a great pick for Vancouver....He'll do fine here......he finished last year a +29!!! pretty damn good for a regular player!! He's kind of like a scott stevens kind of player!!!
Getting rid of Jovo was a good move!! Phoenix were stupid to offer that kind of money to JOVO....I don't think at all he's worth 32.5 million for 5 years!!! NO way!!!!
OVERPAID!!!!

I like this signing. We need some defense minded Dmen. Look at both Edmonton and Carolina's bluelines...both deep and consisting of guys who sacrifice themselves.

With McKee signing in St. Louis I hope they can add a Brendan Witt or an Aaron Ward to go along with Mitchell, Olhund, Salo, and Bourdon.

The province had a Cloutier to LA for Aaron Miller rumour last week as well

LOL, Sabrmetrics is how you judge players. Plus Minus has no value on a players talent. St.Louis was the plus leader in 2004, was he even Plus last year. Using that to judge hockey players is like judging baseball players by RBI and batting avg. :D

+/- is also misleading because it doesn't take into consideration how many minutes a player logs on the PK or PP versus even strength, as well as overall team averages.
All the same, the Canucks situation is better with Mitchell then relying on the farm for no's 3-7 defencemen.
They really do need to get something for Cloutier's 2.45Mill drag on the salary cap. Defencemen are the hot commodity, not goaltenders right now.

i got called bad names for this, but the if the nucks want to just get rid of him (they didn't get shit for Jovo either) they can send him to the Moose ... if someone claims him off waivers then the nucks are off the hook for any of his salary ... if someone doesn't claim him then no loss either.

but i have the sick feeling that its Luongo who will go on the trade block ... probably get Allen and Auld back from the Panthers with a trade pick or something else to sweeten the deal.

it will be back to clouts/auld this season, which isn't all bad ... just not good.

That would never happen. The Canucks just signed Luongo. If management actually pulled that off, no player in his right mind would ever want to sign with Vancouver. The players would say, "What if they ship me away *right* after they sign me! Forget it, I'll get money elsewhere."

The trade would have to be absolutely brain numbing-sensational for the Canucks in order to facilitate something like that. No general manager would ever do anything that silly.

we are talking the nuckleheads ...

so what do you do? two goalies, no defense, no wingers, no centres, and $8 mil for 10 more players???

with a glut of goalies, the nucks can't eat his salary to trade him ...

Signing a top tier goaltender like Luongo demonstrates Nonis's committment to putting out a competitive, Stanley Cup contender. Vancouvers offer to Willie Mitchell wasn't the highest one he received, but he stated the signing of Luongo influenced his decision to play here. If Nonis signs players who think they are signing with a Cup contender then trades away his best goalie, he'd end up with a group of disgruntled players and totally sabatoge the entire club. I highly doubt Luongo is going anywhere.

that would be a pleasant surprise to see the nucks build a good team ...

but I ain't holding my breath about it until I actually see Luongo play in a nucks jersey!

:)

but i will shut up about the trade.
