This is good advice however avoid trainers in chain gyms (GoodLife, etc) as their training requirements are very low and generally based around circuit machines rather than free weights. There’s lots of in person or online options for this, just be sure to check credentials.

Hiring a qualified Personal Trainer would be a wise investment. A trainer is not merely a rep counter. A good trainer teaches form, provides creative variety, and will design a program that is not only tailored to your goals, but will fit in with your lifestyle so that you can stick with it. PT's can monitor and help with progression throughout your fitness journey. It is crucial to make sure that your stabilizers are strengthened before lifting heavy. If they're not, you risk injury. A well-developed program goes a long way to preventing this. If you have existing injuries or issues, then a PT can work with that to improve. There's a lot of misinformation out there perpetuated in part by bodybuilding forums etc. Some of that information doesn't apply to regular people just wanting to get in shape, unless you're competing.

Agreed! And experience is important in addition to qualifications

Athlean X aka Jeff Cavaliere has a lot of instructional videos on how to do weight lifting exercises with proper form.

Provided this link works here's a video for deadlifts.

When I was first starting out, I used fitnessblender on YouTube, just at home to get comfortable with exercise and eventually just got a bodybuilder buddy to show me the ropes for a couple weeks and went from there. Obviously not everyone has a fit friend at their disposal, so I recommend getting a trainer for a session or two and idk, be friendly with the people who look like what you want to look like and ask them to spot you at the big boy lifts after working 'em for a few weeks and 9 times out of 10 they're gonna give you form tips.
I also frequent the fitness subreddits?
It really depends on your goals, but absolutely do not join crossfit if you like having joints. I'll give cf that they have a great community that's super supportive and welcoming but holy moly is it not great on your body long term.
But yeah. Goals. Eating healthy never hurts, too. You get what you put in, and it took me a while to learn that going to the gym 2x a day, 5/6x a week isn't going to be that impressive if all I ate was take out and beer.

Don't forget the push-up. It's still the most commonly used metric to assess physical fitness. Barstarzz is a site with some good instructional videos in this area. Here's a video giving a breakdown on push-ups.

Buy a small ranch and produce hay...it'll keep you in shape.
The pay won't make you wealthy, and you can't afford to eat anything but the beef you produce from the hay.
It's kind of a self correcting ,fitness program.

I once helped with haying for a few hours. There was no opportunity to shower afterwards. I haven't felt so itchy before or since.

Get some help tecnique and form.is so important. Fuck this diet and that diet just eat good foods in reasonable portions. Nothing makes me feel more like a man than leg or deadlift/pull up days. I also end every workout with heavy carries. I like carrying heavy shit.
