Way off topic: Computer hardware expert's advice

I've got a dilemna. I have a choice between a P4 2.53B GHz 533 MHz FSB (i845 chipset) and a P4 2.4C GHz 800 MHz FSB (i865 chipset).

The 2.53B is on an Asus P4PE motherboard and the 2.4C is on an Intel D865 motherboard, which supports dual channel ram. The Asus one doesn't.

Which one would be better for a gaming rig?

No expert but......

I would go with the P4 2.4 GHz 800 MHz FSB (i865 chipset) option.

But a lot of it would depend on other resources such as RAM etc. Your clock speed is only as good as whats delivering the info (FSB) so the faster the FSB the better the performance.

If you have the choice I would get the 2.4 with 800FSB.

That said I would also get nothing because by the fall or christmas your gonna be kicking your own ass when PCI Express comes out and you wanna bag a ATI x800XT (which is available right now in the AGP version) video card.

Unless your like me and to horny to wait, or your game rig right now is like a P3 733 and a Gforce II.

Hey I just spent the afternoon and night transferring motherboard from one case to another. Unplugged all cables, unscrewed the motherboard, same thing with the other motherboard. Switch to other case, bolt on motherboard. Took a while to get the right drivers and had to install the chipset.

Thanks for the advice guys. I made the right choice. Everything is noticeably faster, especially loading 2D apps.

...geez, where is the full blown gaming geekness? My laptop, entirely devoted to checking e-mail and surfing the web on travel has more power than PoorGuys machine. That's not even counting my home gaming machine.
