FUCK FUCKITY FUCK FUCK FUCK............

Ya know.....sometimes i FUCKING HATE relying on people......

Last time i moved (in town move), i hired movers and it was pretty much stress free!.......and all my fucking friends questioned why i did that...they said "well, why didnt you tell me...id have come over and given you a hand.....BLAH FRICKITY BLAH BLAH BLAH".....

So this time........i decide to save a few bucks and rely on friends (ALL OF WHOM I'VE HELPED AT SOME POINT, BUT WHAT THE FUCK!!!)

So I line everything up for today......(no need to rent a truck i got 3 friends with trucks that are all "no problem")......ya well FUCK YOU...3 cancellations later(yesterday and today), and i gotta scramble for some kinda a vehicle, as i DID have a few guys that didnt cancel, and we need something to load up!!!!!

COCKSUCKINGMOTHERFUCKER!!!!!!

FUCK AM I PISSED!!!

I CAN'T WAIT TO LEAVE THIS GOWD DAMNED, SHIT FUCKING, 3 AND A HALF HOUR COMMUTE TOWN!!!!

I can sympathize with ya brother!

I've helped more friends to move then I care to think about....show up on time, bring tape, dollies, boxes and what ever else is needed or I've committed to and just like you when I needed help for a move most of the fucknuts bail

The last three moves I've done I used professionals and with only one minor exception its gone way better than relying on friends. Even the cost of pros isn't that bad when you factor in the beer, pizza, broken items, rental truck, etc.

HFS

Last time I moved I used professionals for a lot of the stuff, but decided to move some things myself. Rented a van, friends bailed, and was left on my own lugging boxes for a day. When I factored in the cost of the van, and my own sweat and frustration, it would have taken the movers about an hour longer to throw the boxes on their truck and cost me very little more than what I paid them anyway. Cost me way more to do it myself.

Student Pro Movers

if you're gonna hire a professional to help you move, don't hire the student pro's. THe better business bureau has gotten more calls about them than any other moving company. Apparently they were using the moving trucks to get pot over the border.

The family who's couch was litteraly stuffed with pot can not get their stuff back as it's being held as evidence at the border. imagine moving into a new house, new country/state, and not having ANYTHING. that would suck

Just thought I'd share my tid bit of knowledge with ya.

I'm so glad I don't have a pickup anymore. Almost every weekend you could count on some "friend" calling you to borrow it so they can save $25 on delivery.

I think you need to look into getting a higher quality group of friends. Whenever I've been asked to help a friend move, I've shown up and honoured any commitment I'd made. Likewise, whenever I've needed help with work at the house or moving stuff, I've had near one hundred per cent attendance amongst friends who'd said they'd help. Am I just lucky, or is this something that others enjoy, as well?

Generally in the past I haven't had trouble. The last time was the only time and, to be fair, I didn't round up a lot of people so if a couple bailed it was me on my own.

I've found that the reliability of friends on moving day is inversely related to their income and ability to hire movers themselves. In my student days eveyone was 100% reliable, because they knew that reliability on moving day was the key to their having help. Once people know they can actually hire movers, the incentive to actually help a friend (esp. if they feel said friend can hire movers) seems to decrease.

First of all, it's a lot more than $25 if you're moving all your stuff.

Second, 50 Mile's buddies clearly left him hanging out to dry, so your insinuation that he's one of those types of "friends" is out of line.

Third, this isn't about YOU. So STFU

Best to go with pros

It's a lot less hassle, and if they break something, it's their problem. I don't want a couple of guys downing three or four beers and then seeing if they can pick up my 65 inch Sony by themselves...

Poor you 50! That totally sucks! Did ya give em shit and/or try to bully them into it? I would have laid such a guilt trip, and ordered them to follow through, but guys aren't like that are they? Too bad... it's effective.

I never liked relying on people who weren't being paid, so once I could afford it, I've always hired movers. Peace of mind.

I don't help friends move, & I don't ask them to help me. It's asking for trouble. What if they break something? And the truck rental often sucks bigtime.
It's not worth having to conform to their schedule, buy beer & pizza, etc..
What I've paid true professionals has been well worth it.

Most of the time I don't bother anymore.

My hot water tank packed it in a couple weeks ago and I mentioned it to a friend. :D He's like...well I know a buddy in the biz and maybe he can hook ya up, and so on.

Couple days later my HWT is starting to take a piss all over my basement floor like a drunk guy at the bar all night. I say to my buddy did you ask your buddy?? Haven't gotten around to it yet. Fukk what ever I think.

I call the pros. sure it was $700, but they were down on time. Had the old one out and the new one in quicker than a cat can lick it's ass. Now this is how ya get shit done I'm thinking.

Yo 50 mile this is my advise to you. Even though it's not exactly to do with moving it applies to everything. :)

I was speaking from the point of view of the friend with the truck every weekend somebody you know buys a tv or dishwasher or whatever and is looking to save on the delivery so they have probably had it since it sounds like the guy moves fairly often.
Also I'm sure you could move all your crap out of your parents basement for $25

exactly. grow up and hire the flippin movers. unless you are still in community college or working retail, there is no reason to ask others to move your shit for you ... ever.

any in-town move involving a truck and three guys will usually cost about $300 for a full apartment or small house ... and if its all bricks and boards and milk crates then leave it and buy some real stuff!

The most cost effective way to move is to hire movers. By the time you factor in aggravation, sore back the week after, renting POS truck, and all the moving you will have to help people do in return you're a lot further ahead renting movers. As a rule of thumb everyone knows to not ask me help them move and vice versa.

Nope, not my style....and as much as i'd like to tell them to take a flying FUCK, when they ask me for help......I won't be able to say no

(and thanks MG)

The point of my thread was that friends let me down.....really had nothing to do with paying or not paying for movers.....and besides $300 is a key # for me ;) ....

I swear you miss the point of more threads than any other asshat on this board....(btw....no animals were harmed in my move)

Unfortunately, that doesn't work for me......if my friends ask...i'll be there.

there's a point to these threads?

but really, if you had simply paid for the move (and it would have cost about the same as one pooning session) then your friends wouldn't have let you down because you wouldn't have had to ask them to do something they obviously didn't want to do or they would have shown up to do it for you ...

but you missed that point, didn't you?

:p
